This weekend we had our 2006 contest in Waco. Our Masters' Challenge was run by former winners Guy LeBlanc (who won AR) and Miguel Pastenez (who won all other prelims), and by up-and-comers Abram Zeis and Jimmy Prichard. Miguel took the top prize and will represent us again at the ITCC. He did a great job and really worked to be the only climber to complete the weight station successfully. Good luck in Minnesota, Miguel!
It was my second time as a judge and my first as both head judge and rescue judge (maybe a mistake on the part of the first-time organizer, but he gave me a good crew who helped me through it, as did some advice from Tom D.). I learned a lot about the event from this side (see post elsewhere on this board) and it got me thinking more about returning to compete next year. Then again, seeing the exhaustion in the climbers' faces at the end of the events made continued retirement look pretty good to me. I'll let you know in a few months what i decide.
