@evo I see what you mean the more "bumpy" the more grippy it should be. Though I haven't climbed in 16 or 3 strand ropes. I do see how 3strand ropes could be more grippy than 16braid ropes, because the strand are more perpendicular to the rope than in 24 or 16braid ropes.
But, it seems 32braid has the critical quantity of intersections of braid strands, to create enough filament surface contrast, for a "sandpaper" type grip.
Though 32braids would have even better grip if they had 3 carrier strands that made up each braid strand.
I'm only saying 32braid is grippier than 24braid, because Drenaline is more easier to hold ones weight on than Samson Voyager - both these ropes have about equal "broken in" wear, of the cover.
Yes, a rope like the 48braid Scandere, the intersections are too insignificantly small, not causing great enough contrast, to provide grip.
