TreeStuff and SherrillTree Join Forces

It's the way business has been running for years now. A startup gets hot and the big boys buy them out. It's the goal of many startups to have that happen. Not saying that was was Luke's goal but this is the typical pattern. It will take a couple years to see how it will all pan out. It's an opportunity for a new tree gear startup to shake things up all over again, if anyone has the stomach for it ;-)

I just tried looking up my first order and it's not showing up and now I'm sad.
It's like I've lost a piece of myself. Best I can remember it was a Sugoi and Buckingham friction saver.

f@&*, I had found the hidden treestuff.com item. It was from a clue I saw from a fb post from a tree-o-cache climb. The climbers didn't understand the clue hidden as a drawing on the side of the bucket. I never thought I'd see the clue living so far away and I didn't think the clue would have been placed here in NZ last year in Nelson.

The clue helped complete the riddle posted as a special find the hidden item online. The post was only up for 1hr in the middle of the USA night, but it was there when I woke up and gone by the time I was out of the shower. The riddle said that in order to get treestuff.com, the item had to be purchased as order 200,000. Sadly, I was order # 199,999. I had to return it, too much tax due this month and it wasn't listed as free. Looks like the VCs beat me to it.

I too though this was Aprils fool.

Seriously now, I hope this goes well for everyone all around at TS, ST and for customers!(y) :)

Who is Sherrill? Someone or something bought out Tobe, correct? Now they've bought out their competition. Is this a symptom of what capitalism has become with shareholders and numbers running the show?
The most shocking and exciting thing a out this thread is that @boreality is back around. Been missing your posts man! And avatars

Congrats to Luke and Sherrilltree. Hopefully this pans out well for consumers as well
And to everyone thinking this is the end and Sherrilltree just ruined buying gear....:berrinche:

I think what is the hardest thing about this transaction is that who is calling the shots? I found a great deal of comfort knowing that if something went wrong with any order, or product I could contact Luke. Now, I will be bounced around a call center with people who have no clue about what I'm purchasing and how I am using it. TreeStuff will change. You don't spend a lot of money on a comp and and then sit back and do nothing. They have their ideas. Will be interesting to see where this goes. I am still going to buy from TreeStuff until something negative happens. I owe them that!

Appreciate all the feedback guys!

Don't worry about anything, the team in Indy is still running Treestuff!

Service and prices stay the same, the "everything ships today" mentality stays, the weirdo fun and games mentality, it stays too.

One thing that will change? Product development is going to ramp up like crazy! With our combined resources we will really be able to knock down some barriers and do awesome things.

Meeting the crew down in Greensboro was a real eye opener for me, they are a great bunch of people and Tripp is a far cry from the management of past. He is an awesome dude that I already consider a friend.

I expect great things and look forward to serving you guys far into the future.

Congrats to my close friends Luke and Erin! You guys are my inspiration, my heroes and the best bosses ever. You deserve it!

I hope it stays the same but it is inevitable that some changes will occur. Hopefully for the better (although I don't know how to improve treestuff). As long as the customer service stays the same and innovation continues to occur they can keep raping my billfold.
Maybe TreeStuff wl improve Sherrill... Ever think of that!!

Oh yeah I've missed treebuzz but I took all the info I learned here and mastered the craft. Now I'm trying to work at a park and do solo removals on my time off. Getting old.
My unkle was bought out by a larger competitor so he stayed on to fulfill the contract until they fired him and took all his customers on to his new venture and with the buy out money became bigger than ever. Corporate fun and games.

First order 8/9/2011 order # 9339. 4 pages of order history. And unlike the Facebook complainers, I haven't gotten a lukes floor other than a piece of rope or a sling since I got those pads and traded them well over a year ago. I haven't bitched about it at all. In fact all the stuff i've gotten that I didn't need went into the tree-o-cache. Trying to pay their generosity forward. I do have to say I personally crushed by this. With sherrill if you're not a huge spender you're insignificant but with treestuff even the little guy is the big guy. I hope Sherrill is paying attention to this and the thousands of Facebook posts that most people dislike them and list a consistent reason. Hello, this is the best customer evaluation survey ever. Either make sweeping changes and get your customer base back or go down in flames and take treestuff with you.

39 orders with TreeStuff since first hooking up with them... Wife used to give me the gears when I got home from work, cause she had had to make a trip to the post office to retrieve a mystery parcel. "what did you buy this time?"

In the past month or so I have happily spent over 3 g's with Treestuff. Updated some ropes, MCRS saddle, some rigging gear, and climbing gear to get me into the new school age of climbing. I can only hope TS remains the same as much as possible.

Congrats to you Luke, I am in Finland and heard.
Change is hard but often good, definetly good for your Family and Sherrill. My best to you and your organization

I certainly hope this stays true. ..... But.....

This news..... I was pretty shocked. Have boycotted sherrill ever since I felt I was an "insignificant" with them.

I understand family Luke and co. Am happy you have your head there. I also am an entrepreneur and can't help but feel the loss of a great company leader. This planet has too many "walmarts" and too much "superstore" mentality. Can't help but feel this is where this Union of TS and ST is going. I believe the tree service industry consists of two groups.

The conglomerates. : Davey, Bartlett, Nelson, Asplundh etc.
The rest : privately owned.

I think the privately owned are much stronger and a much bigger group because of how our clients value trees. And this value is changing. Trees are more and more being recognized as the valuable asset they should be. As small privately owned entrepreneurial companies we love to see the same small entrepreneurial spirit in places we spend our hard earned money.

Luke, I am sad to see you "depart" from your company. I am curious how it will affect you and your family. I hope it leads to more quality of life for you. If you are anything like me, then I know it was no easy decision.

This afternoon Erin and I sold TreeStuff.com to SherrillTree.

We made this decision for our children, Clark, Alice and Hal.

We retain ownership in the company and will be heavily involved, just like always.

TreeStuff is going to stay TreeStuff. That will never change. Thank you for your years of amazing support. We love you all.

--Luke and Erin Dunlevy
"TreeStuff is going to stay Treestuff." For years you've been positioning yourself as the alternative to Sherrill. To many of us that was your value proposition. We weren't paying to support the Sherrill machine. Now, that distinction has collapsed. Certainly there will be a percentage paid from every order to Sherrill. They didn't buy you guys for nothing. Our orders will end up repaying this debt. There will be a sherrill premium on every order. "Filthy lucre" Excuse me while I take a moment to barf (or cry).

Seems like most everyone has the same feelings about this. Hopefully Sherrill turns into Treestuff and Treestuff doesn't turn into Sherrill. I think that'll be a tough road without Luke at the reigns. Steve Connally said it right, no matter how small of a customer I am, I always felt important.
