Too bad I just checked this thread for the first time. I could have been playing for years. It looks like a lot o f fun. The blur is sneaky but if it is not platanus...I would guess young lireodendron tulipifera.

X, I do the samething. I get those two scientific names mixed up constintly. Some books even seem to use them interchangably also? Maybe not possible but...I don't know. The new tree is not Fagus. you guys will shoot yourself. I was thinking it was a one guess deal. Must be a great pic

. Im not going to say it but focus not on the leaves but elsewhere.

come on mattyd.

the "who's online" says you are on "trees from a distance",

.....so you must just leave the computer on and walk away from it for the night or something.

that's not very "green" for the environment you know.

shame on you.

that's what i did with my sweet gum guess. i saw the weeds and stuff and figured it was a kinda wet area since it wasn't mowed.

i don't see anything else.

common meadow weeds.... golden rod and other stuff.

Great guess X! But no. Think simpler

simple.....

like a natural very very common tree?

I will put one more guess, then i shoud leave it up to others for a while.

alright, last try for the night.

Green Ash.

but you said focus on the bark, so that doesn't really make sense, but i'm still going on the wet area.

So simple! Those branch tips scream..Ostrya virginiana

Oh dang it dang it DANG IT.

I just looked up Ostrya virginiana and that was what I meant to say. I always got those two mixed up, even in college!

I knew it wasn't muscle wood, the bark was not like that at all, the bark was easily iron wood, Ostrya virginiana. I just wrote the latin name for what i didn't mean. Shoot shoot shoot. I should have just said iron wood. rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhh.

X, I will give you partial credit for that. I had a feeling you might've had your hornbeams and hophornbeams mixed up. I guess Diane would get an honorable mention too with Carpinus. :)

I figured it out later that afternoon at work but couldn't post.
You guys will always have an advantage though because you are 3 hours ahead of my time zone.
