Got a new to me lower miles f550 chip truck. This is my first DPF/DEF diesel so I’m trying to figure it out and it’s pissing me off.
First I live/work on a banana of an island. 5 miles wide and about 65 miles long yet my service area is about half of that length. Essentially everything is less than 10 miles away so I’m having regen issues.
Anyway the truck doesn’t tell me when it is needing or going into regen nor does it allow me to have any control over it. I’m reading up on different code readers and diagnostic tools that can allow for a stationary regen, and I’m figuring I can plug it in periodically to do this on a regular basis as my location rarely allows the truck to complete it’s secret process.
Forscan seems to be popular and I’m reading where some models have preprogrammed options that either gives an indication that the truck is actively in regen mode or even allows the driver to trigger a manual regen. Either or both of those options would be great too.
Anyone here have experience with regularly triggering stationary regen? Any harm doing so every 400/450 miles? (The truck seems to want to regen every 475/500 miles).
Any recommend scan tools that allows for stationary regen’s or first hand Forscan experience with enabling hidden DPF options?
I think it’s entirely idiotic not to have any dash indicator or allow the driver to have some level of control over something this important. Something as simple as a ‘x number of miles before regen, push ok if you want to start now’.
Figure I’d check with tree fam before trying or going to the truck forums.
