Trees from a distance

Gord, Nick and Diane are all correct - Cedrus deodara or Deodar Cedar. One of the most graceful of the truely ornamental trees. When I have a large garden I'll be planting a Deodar for sure.

what about these two loners from the area where I grew up? They lost their friend on the left(stump) to fire damage - kids lit fires at base of the tree. Feel kinda sentimental about them, these two are still there today despite the best attempts of pyromaniac degenerates.

I agree with BB and maybe it's even the Pinus sylvestris subsp. scotia! (ahaa)
Otherwise, it could be an Austrian pine (Pinus nigra subsp. nigra).
I'm covering all my bases.

B'bull and Diane are right - Scots Pine - Pinus sylvestris, do they have them in America?

Banjo, they can sometimes look very like Corsican Pine, but Scots pine are notable by the bark starting to appear pinkish towards the top of the tree, i'll try and find a good pic which shows this, Corsicans are very dark looking trees with a even darkish brown bark all the way to the top.

Any ideas what this storm damage tree is?

Banjo,

This pic is a good example of a Scots Pine and how the bark changes towards the top appearing less fissured and more orange/pink the higher it goes.

Its getting too easy, Cuprocyparis leylandii indeed. It's parents should be ashamed of the monster they spawned...Chamaecyparis nootkatensis(nice tree) and Cupressus macrocarpa(great tree) right. Leylandii? A foul tree if ever there was one, I hope they all die suddenly in a Dutch Elm Disease inspired plague.

Only difficult IDs from now on in -

What's this spikey looking tree?
