I feel like I've seen this picture before. Anyone?

I have seen this photo before. I never forget a girl kissing a tree in an overcast setting.

Tough picture Nick. Quercus palustris?

[/ QUOTE ]

Not even close. I've travelled a lot around the country, and I've never seen them except in SoCal, though I've heard of them being in FL and TX.

Trachycarpus fortunei?

[/ QUOTE ]

Very good guess Banjo, but it is Cordyline australis or Cabbage Palm/Ti Kouka, native to New Zealand. That tree was growing on the North West coast of Scotland. Its fair to say its a very hardy palm. Although not a true palm, its actually a member of the Lily family which includes Agaves and Yuccas.

There are Trachycarpus fortunei or Chusan Palms (native to China) growing in Scotland. Here are some of them.

Its generally far too cold for Palms in Scotland, they dont do that well, we have some good specimens in the glasshouse at Edinburgh Botanic Gardens.

Grover, that pine you posted right here looks just like a ponderosa to me. How tall do those get?

[/ QUOTE ]

Nick, I've never seen a Ponderosa Pine, but heard they can look pinkish/orange as well as the Scots Pine. That one is definatley a Scots Pine. Biggest Scots Pine I've seen here? about 110ft. Most of the really big ones were cut down long ago.

Quercus palustris was my first thought as well. Does your tree grow in Southern Florida?

Is that a bald cypress by any chance?

Is it Taxodium distichum?

A hint huh? In the upper right side of the tree is yellowish. A couple weeks later the tree is in full bloom at the the whole top 3/4 of the tree is bright yellow for about a month.

A few of ya are guessing oak. The common name is ---- Oak, but it is by no means a Quercus of any type.

See the attachment for the leaf/flower close up.

Australian Silver-oak? I think I've seen one in an arboretum, the flowers are like that Australian bottlebrush shrub.
