Trees from a distance

I wondered if Tom would guess it on the first try. Should have used the other pic I have that is further away.

I thought it was a cool shape too and a pretty good size.

Yes, I thought that little piece of bark along with the very common tree for the NE hint would get an id.

I'll try to get up the other pic. I am not at my computer right now.

Not Acer rubrum. These trees are in Westport, and I do believe that this 'grove' was planted, based on other elements of the nearby landscape.

I could not see the bark on your oak, the pic was like a silhouette!

Ah, yes, Tom but there was bark to be seen at the bottom of the pic. What can I say it was all I had.

Cool pics of the lighting stricken tree. I saw a red Oak that had a third of it blown off from lightning. Pieces of the tree ended up in a neighbors yard three houses down the street.
