A variegated boxelder would be sweet. Never seen one. Sounds beautiful.

E. angustifolia is Russian olive...related to our native wolfwillow.

I miss the aroma when Russian Olive is in flower. Your pic was a nice looking specimen.

Never saw one that big. They're good urban trees in WI but never saw one in NC.

My favorite is when the thorns break off in your fingers. At least thats how it is with the autumn olive around here. Nasty fellers.

These can be a bit thorny but not too bad. There are some here much bigger even than this one, but few and far between. I'm pretty sure I've seen really big ones in Utah.

I think they like the dry semi-arid conditions.

The adjacent stump has growth rings that are quite large I guess Giant Sequoia......
