I know what most of you are going to call it before you even write it, and it's wrong.

sorry that photo is sideways, too lazy to fix it.

William, pawpaw is what I figured I would have guessed from the picture too.

not paw paw and not cucumber magnolia.

not black gum

prize money jumped to $50 now!

5 total guesses per person allowed.

Tuesday July 20th at midnight ends the prize money.

after midnight July 20th, another picture up close will be submitted and you can guess for fun and recognition then.

It would have been the first magnolia I guessed. But It seemed too obvious. They're common around here. Not really eye catchers. If I posted one I would expect a pretty quick Id from one of you. But as I check the natural range I notice that RI is too far north. Not a common tree for you.

Gaining popularity quickly... We are 6 and 6a, so although it's not common, it is native.

I still hope you are wrong, you damned hitch-hiker.

"It would have been the first magnolia I guessed"

Yeah, right. Whatever.

Actually, I'm wrong. They're not 'that' common. I see them once in a while in natural settings and as ornamentals . But X's tree looks like one. But I still think that's too obvious a guess. It's gotta be something else. They grow wild in RI?
