No, neither of those.

Hint: The photo is full of nut and fruit trees...so...
this tree (front left) has a "fruit" that is considered "nutty" in flavor.

And, like the grape out here, they have become a regional crop.

Uhhh... some kind of fig?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not sure that 'the mighty fig' would ever become SO popular as to compete with the vineyards (grapes)out here.

No, the 'fruit' of this tree can't be eaten fresh off the tree. There is also a famous product derived from this fruit.

I thought posting some other 'types' of trees just to mix it up a bit would generate some interest...but I guess not - oh well...

Not apricot.

The fig answer was close since it is from the same Mediterranean region.

The word 'fruit' is not being used as in sweet fruit.

Keep going.... almost there....

EZzzzzz - one of the clues was a famous product is derived from this fruit.

Prune juice is a must have for old people like Blinky, and nowadays, even young people see the benefit of drinking it.

You remind me very much of my cousin(who sadly passed away rather young).
When I was growing up every summer my family would go back East and visit relatives. My family had NO sense of humor so with his quick wit he would always liven up the gatherings. Thank goodness!

True wit survives through the ages.

Yes, just as a light heart lives longest.

Hey, speaking of longest...a final clue... this long-lived tree has been with humankind through the millenniums of wars, victories, death and rebirth and its fruit has been pressed and used to burn the Greek Olympic flame, the Romans had a separate stock market and merchant marine for it and nowadays it's used as a salad dressing!!

*Special clue for EZ: this is the humble little lump that sits at the bottom of a martini glass

My self-esteem?

I am guessing the tree is an Olive tree of some kind.
