I'll need some enlightening too. I get the point of a progress capture device or clutch as a pre-tensioner, but what about when it comes time to let the load run on a butt hitch? I guess you disengage it manually after applying tension to let it run?
Im willing to bet its a lock, so you can quickly and easily lock the load off.
Its called redunancy.
As far as it being a device for tensioning the rope ?
Isnt that what the winch does already ?
Wouldnt really make sense to have a tensioning device right in front of the winch drum as you could just turn the winch handle and accomplish the same thing.
This leads me to believe its a brake/load lock of some sort.
