TreeMagic

the straps real good, slides over real smooth.
so far i've only had 4 climbs in it and each time i've made afew adjustments.
this thing is inifnately adjustable, i think it will take a few climbs to hit that perfect spot.
having said that, every set-up i've used so far is comfortable.
ive been climbing with a bosun for the past couple of years so was a little apprehensive about the crotch ride on a leg loop saddle but it seems fine.
should clock up more hours in it next week, havent done any real long limb walks yet.
i'll keep you posted

Thanks, yes please update your experience. I've been climbing with the Glide from Sherrill and in general liked it, and it is to heavy in my opinion.

Later,
Jack

Hey Guys

Sorry for the delay. I've been off with Pugsly & a few other sound dudes playing at demos for 4 days. Just about got my head back to normal & realise the APF show is tomorrow!!

Steve, you are quite right, there are more equipment attachment points than you can wave the proverbial ...... stick at. THis offers loads of options when your rigging or just to carry a nice array of slings, redirects, line pouches etc. You soon learn that everything has its place & find that you're not searching to find the kit you need.

Ross, there are possibilities to slip a large snap biner under the belt for a chainsaw hanging point & the cost is £170 +the dreaded vat.

For you guys across the pond, I spoke with Hubert last week & believe that he will be in Detroit for TCI along with a few euro climbers. I guess that will be a show not to miss.

Good luck
Nod

hey nod, does that mean hubert will have saddles to sell at tci? and was 170 pounds (no lb sign on my keyboard!) the price for the whole saddle? that sounds like too good a deal in us$, or maybe my guessing at the exchange rate is really off.
thanks,
k.

Hi Kathy

I don't know if Hubert will have harnesses with him, but it would make good business sense! £170 works out to about $320. I've no idea what you'd normally pay for such a harness but generally the US seems at least 40% cheaper than what we pay in the UK for products, so anyone who wants to send us some US products I'm sure the finance could be sorted!!!

We've just had our biennial forest show the last few days & I could have sold 50 of those beauties if I'd had that many. I've also taken a real close look at most of the harnesses available in the UK & truly believe that it is without doubt a kind of magic in comparison. Of course everyone to there own but it stands head & shoulders above most.

Good luck & best wishes
Nod

Thanks Nod for the Tree Magic, will be putting it to use tomorrow, and will post my humble opinion. I have made a slight modification to the front strap amd will post a pic if the mod seems to work.

Well, used the magic today and so far so good. Very good in fact! All new things take a while to get used to, it feels much lower round my hips than the old butterfly and it pinching a bit where it shouldn't. I'm not sure yet which adjustment will prevent this, I'll try more things out soon.
I actually read the instructions, and they say, "no part of the harness should be placed near to the genitals". I'm not sure how to achieve this other than wearing it round my knees! Its a harness! Its bound to be close!

I made the modification because I wanted the front strap to be shorter and didn't like the amount of spare tape to one side, it made the harness seem unbalanced and over complicated. I don't need to adjust it again so prefer a fixed strap.

I've used ART rings and a pre sewn 4ft sling rated at 24Kn so all should be above aboard. The sling is double wrapped round each ring before threading back through itself, this is necessary to keep it short. I've re used the original sliders but might take them off and use another ring (just one) instead as it might slide better, we'll see. Two sliders are abit unecessary as you can still clip another line straight on to the sling if you want, not so easy with the original strap.

Hi Rupert

After you left on saturday I took a close look at the Bfly 2 you left for me. I've not tried it yet as I can't prise myself out of the tree magic, but after the few things you pointed out it has certainly cemented in my mind a big ? over the whole bfly system. We use & carry more equipment than ever, so it seems mad to have the equipment loops so small & tight.

I'd be interested to here other folks thoughts on the butterfly 2.

Keep me posted
Nod

PS I know who got the good deal at that show!!!

hay why do most of us in the US have a hard time whit getting these sadles? there so much beter than thoughs but strap gigantic D things wever and buck. put out?
whos got it? I would like to try this one out. I don't like how my butter fly rides up so I have altered the leg attachments but I don't think some would approve...seams the thing to do is get something that works well w/o cutting & sewing...
do the hip rings adjust? seems like that would be essential w/ on size fits-all?

thanks for the info. but I e-mailed these guy in CO US and the two Edelrid dealers in the US don't import it. I think the shuold test it and sell it here, a one size fits all harnes........ come on it's a no brainer?

I've been using mine on and off for a while now and I'm still not sure about it. It seems do slip down off your waist no matter how tight you wear it.

I think the butterfly 1 is still the best harness of that type around. Sure theres two sizes but most seem to fit the regular size. I managed to find another B1 a couple of weeks ago in a shop that had it as old stock, I snapped it up at a bargain price, thats two I've bought for less than half retail value this year so I should be ok for B1's for a while.

The tree magic is nice looking, loads of gear attachments and is lightweight one size fits all, but having said that I still don't think its worth getting too excited about.

Gentlemen, I got 10 Tree Magics from ART in January with a shipment of Ropeguides and Positioners. Snarf and 3 Wisconsin climbers have experienced the Magic and the feedback has been positive. Plus the colors go well with your GRCS. Be good.
