This is on a pine in neighbor's yard. The gash spirals around the tree at the same depth several feet above and below what's shown.

I've been around pine trees all my life, but this past weekend was the first time I've seen foam on one.

Turns out there's soap-like stuff in or on the bark that reacts with rain to make the foam.
(Edited to correct info. It's stuff in or on the bark, not the sap.)

Apparently it can happen with any type tree if the conditions are right.

Nothing too unusual here but a red oak that was lightning struck-mildly?? And a short leaf pine showing off its resprouting abilities

Otherwise large, tall and straight doug firs take odd shapes when growing out of rocky shorelines. A nice one today while I was looking at some dead trees to take down along the driveway.
