TRAQ Course

Has anyone attended a TRAQ course? I just Signed up for one and am hoping to see what others thought of the course. Some people I've spoken with say it was the best ISA course they have ever attended and others says it's just a refresher. Let me know what you think, I'm going to be attending the one in Escondido, CA later next month. Hopefully I'll see some of you there!

There is quite a bit that is refresher. But I thought it was a worthwhile course. It got me thinking more analytically about the trees I encounter. And gave me a uniform language with which to communicate risk. So that even if you and I disagree about the level of risk that a tree presents, or the proper way to manage aspects of some situation, we can communicate clearly using terminology that is understood across the board. At least for the most part. I also appreciated the overall approach of the course, which was targeted at retaining trees and communicating the many positive impacts they have on our lives. Rather than recommending removal at the first sign of defect. If I had it to do over, I would take it again. And I paid for it myself, it ain't cheap. I feel much more confident in my assessment process now.

Sounds like they're trying to end arborist vs arborist when a case gets taken to trial or litigation. Which is a good thing, getting everyone trained and on the same page is great. I'm glad I have the opportunity to take the course.

Not that particular tree, but trees like that, yes.

'Response Growth' and Mitigation Options' are the 2 key concepts in TRAQ.

I never flew a Komodo Dragon...let's see...is beech cold-blooded? Or is there a joke somewhere about a kimono opening and closing? Komodo, kimono...

so mac, how is 'defect' defined in TRAQ?

Hey it's good to be busy! As long as you love what your doing that is.:)

Hopefully it will be my backyard too in the near future. Looking to get closer to family and make a job switch as well....same industry, different venue.

Litigation is very unlikely. I've been selling opinions (consulting) 22+ years, but I have yet to see a case about a failed tree go to court where both experts assessed the tree beforehand. And it's very seldom that either one had prior experience with it.

It's usually forensics and hindsight (which is seldom 20/20). What most people don't get is; the best way to avoid having your opinions challenged, is to keep your opinions to yourself! Don't volunteer recommendations, when all the owner needs is information.

As for the 'quiz', sure, you'll do great! o_O
