Toxic Pwr Saws RISK to Workers

Was sold some soybean based 2stroke oil which was "extensively tested" maybe a decade ago(?) and ended up with seized piston and some serious shit-giving from the mechanic. Totally different from bar oil, but same vein of getting away from nasty chems. Was told used motor oil was substantially worse for you skin contact-wise by my vehicle mechanic too, hear ya on re-using though rico, hard to say which is better ecologically.

I did the same thing with a soy based 2 stroke oil. Ran it on a cheap saw that didn't care about and stuck a piston. Thanks but I think I will pass.
I do run a lubricity additive that has soy in it when I use regular diesel, and I love it. Schaeffer Oil SoyShield. https://www.schaefferoil.com/soyshield.html
I run Schaeffer motor oil, tranny fluid, gear lube, hydraulic fluid, and grease in all my vehicles, and the skidder, chipper, and mill. The best!!!

I use canola in 20" and down, petroleum in 28"+. I'm behind on maintenance after moving. I'll consider getting a 55 gallon drum of canola oil.

At my old job, it was all we used. 36" Still bars were common. 50 and 60" Cannons, rarely used... Don't recall using anything different, but it's been 5 + years.

Idk about long bar CS milling.

Don't store with canola.

If used regularly, seems fine.

My 193t just quit oiling. My daily driver, but then I got the Lil Echo. It say a bit. Coincidental???

No other oiler issues.

Schaeffer's is the shit. I've been using their 9000 or 7000 2 stroke oil in my saws for quite some time now. Pricey but some of the cleanest burning oil I've ever run:

IMHO the best oil company in America! You can literally feel and hear the difference when using their products. I got turned onto them about 40 years ago when maintaining and servicing big Skyline and High Lead yarders.

Schaeffer makes 2-3 diesel fuel additives. I believe they all add lubricity, increase cetane, deal with water, and clean injectors. You just toss the appropriate amount in your tank before you fill up. All their fuel additives are similar to Opti-lube, Diesel KLeen, Stanadyne, or any of the other well known diesel additives. With our ultra low sulfur fuel these days adding lubricity is very important to help save your fuel delivery system.

I used to run used motor oil for years but a customer pointed out that due to the combustion waste in it it is very carcinogenic to breath. I now run used hydraulic oil which I always seem to have a plentiful supply. I also ran canola oil for a year or so but man did it gum up the saws

Some info on used mtor oil contaminants:

I am in full agreement with the dangers of used motor oil, as a retired mechanic I was always careful to keep that shit off my skin as much as possible....the other really big one (other than spray solvents) was used conventional ATF that had seen clutch slippage.....that shit would literally make you lungs hurt if you breathed too much of the vapors.
