topping explained

I'm surprised Harold thinks a computer is a worthwhile investment. Funny how those "big companies" spend all that money on bucket trucks when according to harold they could be doing better overall without them. He should probably become a consultant.

Something about how cocky he is, that really irks(?) me , and do people actually hire somebody like him, He comes off as an ass.

Some people. /forum/images/graemlins/bangtard.gif

AHHHH! I can't believe someone would write something like that and put their stupidity out there for everyone to read.

What a dillhole is right!!!!! unbelievable!

yeah, and he's even cocky about it.

I'm gonna write him. He's gonna be pissed.

I'll let ya know his response.

Maybe I'll paste my mail to him and paste his reply. /forum/images/graemlins/applaudit.gif

later,

A few years ago there waws a McPeak thread on the ISA board if I remember correctly. A number of people e-mailed him and posted the responses. It was entertaining but other than that it didn't change him as we see in the current website of his. If anything he was probably pushed further away from ever changing. If I remember correctly, Dave Spencer pointed this out then and recommended a different approach.

Do as you wish but shoudn't we be trying to change these attitudes rather than making enemies?

How about someone invite him to join the buzz? If he is not being yelled at he may just pick up some information.

Kumbaya and all that crap

Dave

PS. Yes it was me who made that statement a few years back. But I got that attitude from hanging out with Sean Gere at an ISA conference. A bunch of us were sitting around talking and a fella walked by with a leather jacket on that had his tree company logo on and stated in bold letters that one of their services was topping. We all started to laugh and point and remark at the nerve of the guy wearing that to a trade show and Sean just calmly said "at least he came to the right place to learn" I'm sure all of us felt like jerks but that attitude has changed the way I look at life. Tell someone that they have been doing something for years or even generations that is wrong and you will never get a positive response. Show them the way to info and let them have their own epithany.

Thanks for making me feel like a jerk Sean /forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Great point Eric E!

You stopped me.

Luckily I've been messing with my computer problems and haven't done it.

It seemed like he was putting down proper tree trimmers and therefor I wanted to fight. Hillbilly weekend hackers piss me off enough as is, then to have one like them on the internet broadcasting his stupidity.

But I guess that fight started long ago and that's why he is pushed even further the wrong way.

Thanks man,

It seems McPeak comes up on these forums every once in a while; Dave has always said we should invite him etc. It seems that Tom and Mike Maas(?)emailed him seperately over the years and tried to enlighten him. At one point i think a few people were emailing him and a lot of public things had been said; and he went his own way, as he seems to still do.

I got to meet Sean Gere at the Richmond Va. Arbormaster class last November. He definateley seemed like a good diplomat, very even-keeled and willing to help. It's great to have access to guys like that. I have the problem of being a jerk when I feel elite at something (I don't have that problem here as I'm not too confident of my abilities or lack of). /forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I remember this conversation at the ISA website and also had a few conversations with this guy through email. He was very defensive to begin with because he had been attacked heavily for his views on spiking. I very much enjoyed talking to him and hope that he is doing well. Unfortunately from looking at his website he doesn't feel comfortable with the idea of not spiking or informed enough about the difference between topping, crown reduction, and pruning.

His position is far from my own, but I will say that calling a fellow tree climber names is indefensible. I have not found the tree guy that I agree with in all aspects, but anyone that is willing to risk his life at this job deserves respect no matter how right or wrong they are in how they do it.

Sorry if I have offended anyone, but the idea that any of us has a lock on what is right when it comes to trees is ridiculous. Shigo even backed painting wounds at one time.

Let me end with this. I have learned from those I thought knew more than me and those knowing less, but with respectful interaction I have learned that everybody has something to teach and to learn.

Brian
