Top Secret Climbing System?

The adjustable climbing system Beddes (and others I am sure) used in the HI Masters must be top secret, or I am to lame to locate a thread w/pic. Can someone post a shot or direct me to the thread? THX

after seeing this thread i decided to go out for a little rec climbing to work on a couple of things ive been meaning to check out, i figured out how to use this setup within min. and i was able to extend the bridge getting more out of my body thrust while still being able to reach my knot, ive been trying to figure out a system like this for a while now, im glad someone already had it ready for me to use

i use a mircograb instead of a ropeman ascender purely based on the fact that i dont own a ropeman, it worked well but was a bit clunky, i have ordered a ropeman though, we'll see how well it works out

I have tried this setup and it has its merits. The one thing that hasn't been adresses ( to my knowledge) is the setup walking up when set in the low/work position............when you need to tend slack the ropeman wants to walk up the rope!!!

When I've used this system with a large eye splice, the throat of the splice provided enough resistance to keep everything in place.

thanks roger, where were you a day ago when i picked up the ropeman, your right, i have plenty of accessory cord ti could have used, but honestly im sure i could think of a thousand ways to use the ropeman regardless,

rich, i never really had this problem, but then again i didnt have the problem with the eye being too short either, i keep the system extended away from me almost the whole time, but just low enough for me to be able to reach my knot, now there are downsides to this, one being that when i do pull on my knot i go much faster than i usually do, to rememdy this i keep a carabiner on my left leg pad and push the rope through the gate to help keep a little pressure,

i have only used this system for rec climbing, tomorrow is the first day im working with it, if all does well i think i just saved myself hundreds of dollars by not purchasing a unicender or other mechanical ascenders

a short prussik is quite a bit cheaper than a ropeman and you don't need a hitch climber or a swivel.

Yeah but it doesn't move to or from you quite as smooth. The ropeman and the hitch climber just make the setup smooth and clean.

excellent point kentucky sawer, and im not saying that because you just justified my spending of 40 dollars either, i forgot that it needs to feed itself through, how did the contest go

the hitch climber is one of those gotta have it tools. That 60 bucks is not missed at all around here. I fell in love with it on first sight just cause its soooo sexy.

I dont really know about the ropeman. I never have quite understood the point of the mechanical rope devices. Maybe I am really missing out. I am sure that I am. but using those bad [censored] dyneema prussics works great. I love those things too.

I am so glad I dont have to climb the rest of my life not knowing these tricks

If your trying to shave seconds in a competitive setting, then go for it. Smooth is good but donating that 40 bucks to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, achieving the same effect with a prussick, in my opinion, is a good idea too. Time for me to re-up again.

The ropeman is available for cheaper than what Sherrill sells it for. I've seen it for $27 on Campmor I think.

Cool, thanks for that. I've been eying a ropeman but just wasn't willing to go the $40.

treebing, your right about the sexyness of the hitch climber, its funny because thats exactly the words i used to describe it to my crew, and ky, if you right about the ropeman being that cheap elsewhere i may burst into tears now, unless of course you know what tobes 110 precent policy is off hand
