top handle saws

IDK. I test drove it for a week. I hear it gets better with time. I really like how they did the bar nut and how it wont fall out of the tree.

However, I'm digging my Echo 355T which was nearly $200 cheaper than the 201. I don't think it's quite as fast as my 200T was but for the price difference it's well worth it.

my only complaint about the 355 is it sprays a lot of bar oil. when working from the bucket it seems i always end up with oil stains on my shirt.

man i BEAT on my 192, i bought it used for $120, hardly used. that thing must HATE me for what i make it cut, but it always makes it thru. based off its' performance, and after using a 201 for a little bit, and after trying out a 540 (for one cut at a dealer, which doesnt tell me really anything at all about it), i cant seem to accept paying what either of those saws cost, for something that doesnt have all that much difference in cutting speed from my 192. i know its not all about cutting speed, but that factor (as well as available funds) have kept me riding my saw.
still havent tried that 355 but its more and more appealing...
anyone else beating a 192 to death or am i the only one ripping that thing, aw day er day

I run 192's, but find them gutless and slow in stock form, (same as all saws, but more noticable due to the small size and 1.7 hp stock rating) A simple muffler mod with a dremel perks the saws right up. When done, they're at least 20 faster, and close to a stock 200T, in wood under 8" or so.

FYI, they're not pro saws, and aren't designed to last as many hours as a 200.

I am also having trouble with the saw sticking wide open, wich can be scary and dangerous, the the repair shop cant find a reason and it wont stick when they test it at the shop any advice on that?

I've had a friend having this issue. For him it was the shape of the plastic around the trigger and bits of his glove getting stuck in between jamming the throttle wide open. My 192 (which is also my day to day workhorse) doesn't have the same potential as we noticed. Maybe check that area and see is some debris is jammed in there?

I have a 338xp top handle and was having the same problem. I was able to tweek the idle screw and bring it down to normal but now it seems when I let off the break it gives the saw a full burst and goes wide open for a few seconds. It can be really scary!

Hmmm, 192t....I have had a few of those muffler modded with those stupid plastic dogs replaced with 200t metal dogs....there is no comparison to a 200t or a modded 201t...good reliable saw but not a pro saw in the least like Roger says...right now I have a 2 year old 200t and a 8 month old 201t modded ( muffler and advanced timing )...I choose that 201t over the 200t every time and the 200t rips so you get my drift.....

I won a 540xpt at a recent climbing comp and love it. We used 200t's before that, loved them, then had a ton of them stolen so we switched to 201's which sucked.

I find the 540 slightly less power than the 200t but it is very slight. The saw is super balanced as well. I am not a fan of the primer bulb. It seems as though that will surely get caught or tore on something.

The initial break in was around a week but after that the saw is a ripper. It handles dead ash very well which is usually a pain as well.

Maybe yours is a lemon bro maybe it needs more time. Good luck.
