todays job

That would make me nervous for sure

Todays forecast said light rain all day, but it wasn't raining at 7:30 so we said we would work fast and hopefully get done before the rain came in, the first job was a 3 stem red oak removal, each stem was about 24-26" dbh and half of one had already broken out and landed on the neighbours house.

Then the neighbour across the street wanted some work done normally I would give him a card and tell him to setup an appointment for a quote, but the saleperson was around the corner so we took out a 8" dbh red pine and a 14" dbh scots pine. It started to rain before we finished

Then we make it to our 2nd scheduled job a 20" dbh silver maple removal, by now we are soaked and its about 3pm.

Then this H.O.'s neighbour comes across and askes if we could lift some logs from his backyard to the front, we setup the crane and get back there, they're about 36" in diameter and each 9' long red oak, the tree was removed by a competator and a friend of mine.

Done and back to the shop around 4 pm and we definately didn't beat the rain.

I thought I had u beat when I read the post. Til I saw your picture of course.

I watched it rain really really hard, did my taxes, bid a tree and harvested these from a clients yard that I did a removal in last week. Not as hardcore as you guys, but hey, fighting off the flu cant be done sitting in bed.

this is the tree. Came up off the roots after the old tree fell over. Never been pruned except from the ground. Might be a small job this winter...I only collected from the ground with an 8 foot pole picker. Probably another 6 bushels up there still. I needed more carriers, will return next week. Making cider. Lots of cider.

Climbed 3 massive Red Oaks like a 25 year old while my 28 year old helper worked out of the bucket all day (I'm the designated climber if you were wondering). It was a long day, and in an attempt to help, he pulled my rope out of the last tree without using the retrieve-a-ball, leaving my FS about 60' up in the tree, so he got a little climbing in at the end LOL.

The job included pruning of 6 very large oaks, a white pine, a black cherry, and 8 bazillion bittersweet vines. I am pooped and sore.

Well I had an interesting day, we got our days work done by 11:30, while we were eating lunch back at the shop we had a local farmer and friend come in in one hell of a panic, his FULL 80' tall 24' diameter silo had a good 5-10 degree lean to it which it didn't earlier this morning.

We got there at a little after 12pm and after talking to his insurance agent he just wanted it down, he didn't care what it destroyed on the way down.

Our crane was gone to a construction job so the bucket was our best chance of getting a 1/2" cable up and on one of the steel bands. Once I put the 300' 1/2" cable up I put the other end on our mini crane which weighs about 10 ton I tried pulling on it, apparently it moved a little bit, but it didn't come over. So the farmer went to get a front end loader from the gravel pit nextdoor, we pulled with it but broke the steel band.

By now we must have had everybody within a mile radius watching us from next to the farm house and the general concensus was that we move the cable down to the bottom and choke the silo and try to collapse the bottom. This broke the cable of course.

As we were talking about the next move, to cut the bottom bands opposite to the lean(which was my idea to begin with but everybody thought it was too dangerous) my dad stopped by and used a chop saw to do just that and less than a minute later it was on the ground with the loudest thud I have ever heard.

The only downside was it flattened the milking barn on the way but there was no avoiding that because thats the way it was leaning by 15-20' on the top.

Sorry I didn't get any pics but my camera was in the truck and I was too busy.
