Today....

Large sycamore removal for my neighbors. This tree has been dropping large limbs for years and despite the root rot it's trunk was very solid. Felled with a 500i/36" bar.

No pics of the whole tree as the undergrowth was too thick to see the top of the tree well.

Due to years of storm damage, it was basically a twisted trunk with no canopy apart from being covered in wintercreeper.20250711_145830.jpgIMG_20250711_204847.jpg20250711_140550.jpg

My daughter just made a quantum leap in her progression as a climber and just started blasting up this tree she really likes on MRS! She tried about a year ago and couldn't get past the first step, and has otherwise just been climbing the rope on ascenders. I have never forced her; just helped her set up to practice when she feels like it, which wasn't often until last Sunday, when she wanted to climb higher in this tree than she was comfortable free climbing, which was just onto the first branch, 6' off the ground. It's a perfect tree for a beginner, with ideal angles to just walk up to the top. Since last Sunday, she has wanted to climb up to the top at least once per day! I am unbelievably proud of her!

I love this! It’s cool for kids to climb trees, and there are two ways to do it. I would guess most kids would get the feeling of freedom using no ropes, and that few get to learn the ropes and feel the freedom using their hands to do anything other than holding onto the tree. Go girl!

And the rope gives you access to sooooo many more trees, which is freeing in itself.

Pretty busy lately, and about to be moreso with an upcoming trip... Started the day with my steering going out right before pulling into the ferry line. Luckily a buddy was there to help and we wired it together enough to back the truck out of the way into a parking spot. Also lucky it happened as I was just doing a three point turn at a stop, instead of going down a hill at 45mph..... I was able to toss gear in another truck of mine, catch the next ferry and still make most of my appointments, and will have a mobile mechanic come deal with that and a few other things this weekend. Plus two other job photos from recent days.

I think I've seen some Morbark chippers that had built-in dust suppression/misting systems.... This was a years old brush pile at a family cabin, it was a mess to pull apart but I wore an N95 and had the wind blowing away from me, so it wasn't too bad actually.

I got back from a trip last week and still struggling to catch up from the time away. It's nice to take a break once in a while, but when you return you are so far behind....

A few random pics from the week, taking a dead top in a tree that was full of ants 100 feet up, a nice orca visit right next to the ferry dock, got the Husky battery hedge trimmer which is handy for certain kinds of brush, and working with an excavator on a project.
