Should have used a low to ground humbolt and gutted the hinge to maximize board ft. to get a bigger check from the mill.
Yes, a pull line that was also at an angle to suggest a guy line too. Had about 3-4 feet of lean towards the willow oak that is t the left of the neighbors driveway@Niell Nice babyface. Any pull rope, or just a suggestive lean?
That looks like all the large maples around here. Hollow. Anything over about 9 inches you can count on it being hollow.View attachment 90024View attachment 90025Hollow, cracked, heavy leaning maple made for a very noodly climb; glad to have a high TIP in another tree![]()

Now you know why Akimbos are not good for softwood work. You would be stuck up in that tree still. They bugger up with a bit of balsam sap.I don’t work on many softwoods but we raised the canopy on this Norway spruce to get it away from 2 roofs this evening. I hit a pocket of sap. It was being flung out by my battery saw and the saw cut out a few times. It was flowing out like syrup and landing on my climb line. I didn’t want my groundie to move it as he had to hold the rigging line and it would have placed him under the load had he moved in.
I’ve never experienced such flow before. Is it a common occurrence?
I nearly had my Unicender sent up! I love the dexterity of the Akimbo but enjoy the invulnerability of the Uni. Fortunately it was second to last cut before the job was complete. Now you know why Akimbos are not good for softwood work. You would be stuck up in that tree still.
