That is just ridiculousToday consisted of rain, 30mph wind gusts, and dropping dead crispy cottonwood trees.
Still nicer than being stuck in an office.View attachment 55630View attachment 55631View attachment 55632last image is my throwline cube turning into a kite in a wind gust.
that is one really big tree!Had some extra time to play today and let the groundie (aka friend who came to hang out) go back to basics on a beautiful majestic oak. First time for him in a tree for him...definitely not his last.View attachment 55615
What was the collar for?Retrieving a radio collar from a topped snag yesterday. Bark was peeling off the trunk so I had to double-crotch down onto the snag from two adjacent doug-firs. Found the radio collar between the trunk and peeling bark (second photo). Beautiful day in the mountains.

It was a neck collar on a Spotted Skunk. The grad student who is doing the study suspects that the skunk was killed by a great-horned owl or barred owl and hauled up to the top of the snag and eaten there. The transmitter got dropped and fell into the crack between the trunk and peeling bark. What was the collar for?
