Today....

Today, I'm reminded of the challenges of the labor force that will do tree work, and how machines are much more predictable.

A good tactic for an interview. While telling some anecdotes, as the interviewer, mention concussions. Some people will tell you up front that they have had a bad brain injury. Car wreck getting thrown through the windshield, truck turn-overs with regaining consciousness standing on the driver, martial arts, bike wrecks (friend got his age wrong for a year, thinking he was about to turn 29, rather than 30, etc.

The Final Post Of Jason Douglas by JeffGu

A short story about a man who never saw the movie Alien and therefore had no idea that shortly after hatching, they are small and green. He is lured into range by an alien creature who preys on mushy, pink lifeforms and takes advantage of their need to photograph horrible little monsters.

I think it will sell.

One of the reasons Dawn Redwoods are so scarce, is that they're sorta deciduous, in that they brown out annually, and folks cut them down, mistaking them to be dead.

Quite a few folks have planted Dawns in the area as they do really well in this environment. Seems to me they have been mislabeled though, as they much more closely resemble a Cedar than a Redwood?

It’s a Dawn Redwood. The only one I know of that will grow around here, although I may be wrong on that.
There is/was a Sequoia in State College. Been a long time since I had eyes on it. Next time I'm there I'll have to look again.

I can’t say as I know real Redwoods well, as I’m not sure I’ve actually ever seen one. This one definitely looked more like cedar, but much heavier. The wood was fairly light, but the leaves more than made up for it! So perhaps it is misnamed, and really is closer to the cedar family?

It's in the Cupressaceae family, which has seven subfamilies, about 30 genera, and includes cedar, cypress, juniper, redwood, etc. so I really don't think it has been misnamed. It's in the subfamily Sequoioideae which are the trees commonly called Redwoods, so the name is pretty much what you'd expect.
