Today....

That’s a nice post @Bendroctanus . I am certain that my father is responsible for the way I look at things. He was definitely a creative soul, but maybe not the most balanced individual. He made some huge achievements in his life, and much of it was happening while I was very young. I definitely witnessed some things at a scale that diminish what some others see as impossible. My goal is to seek possibilities and figure out how to get there with what I have.

I didn’t know my bud was taking that first photo (he has a good eye and he’s quick), but I can promise you that the plan I made in my head at that time is exactly what we were able to do. Somehow my mind’s eye can play out the result of any action before ever leaving the ground, and it helps me build a sequence of steps to get the work done safely.

I hope you don't mind me posting the last picture on the local Nextdoor newsfeed along with this caption:

Would you let your child do this? She already knows how to climb, and she get to see things from a perspective most people will never see. The self confidence she'll get from being able to do something that seems really hard and scary will spill over into other aspects of her life. What a lucky little girl.

Going back to falling timber in the CZU fire area tomorrow. Spent some time this afternoon getting saws cleaned up and ready to go. Fresh bars/chains on the 562, 572, and 592 and they are all cutting like raped apes.

What a pretty picture this is. A man can indeed love trees and chainsaws at the same time. I just put a new 20" Tsumura light bar and some bigger aftermarket dogs on my 346xp and was feeling my oats but this is next level.

36”. I have run 42’s on my 90cc saws for decades, but recently started running a shorter bar. The 592 makes a 3 footer sing like a bird.

Cool. I thought it looked a bit longer than mine. I have a 32" on the 592 i recently picked up. It was the only lite bar my local dealer had in stock. I run a 32" and 42" on my 395. Any longer than 32" is a pain to get in and out of the saw scabbard on our bucket truck.

Rico.... Is Brookdale lodge and big basin state park the same area?(or anyone who can answer) I honeymooned there. Long time ago. Its crushing to see these areas burn, Thanks for helping out... That goes out to all who have to deal with that shit.

I underbid this one by a decent amount. Old me would have tried rushing it out, probably break something, or possibly hurt myself. New me just kept saying, "I'm getting paid for the job so I'm not really losing any money, don't do something dumb that'll cost you financially or physically." Put in a solid day yesterday and went back this morning to finish chunking down the stems. Flawless victory and the customer was so impressed HE added an extra $200 to the bill. Moral of the story....just do what you do and let the rest sort itself out.

Quarter sawed a very nice 28” Honeylocust, slabbed out its 40” union, slabbed a 55” Norway Maple, sliced out 10 coins from its base, slabbed out an 18” Sycamore Maple and a few other Norway Maple chunks. T’was a long day but productive.

Been busy, not posting much, but great weather this week and into the foreseeable forecast.

Decent size top, fir with a crook in it, and an ugly, stripped up tree in the distance I had NOTHING to do with, haha.

Edit, just went through todays photos.... three more to add.

Was felling on a hillside this morning and came across a mama and fawn. The way they behave is the mom takes off to distract you while the fawn lays down and sits still to hide. Unfortunately it was right by where I was felling a big old snag and couldn't get it to move without physically picking it up and carrying it away, but luckily it was opposite where I was dropping the tree.

Second photo is one of the handful of remaining old growth firs in the area. First time on this particular road, so I'd never seen it before. Hell of a tree, they are just SO different from firs under like... 200 years old.
