Today....

I hired and successfully on boarded 10 guys this week (not today) but super excited to have these gents join our team!
That’s nothing to sneeze at! Have to ask…are they filling a variety of positions within your outfit or mostly the same roll? I remember working at a company sized similar to yours and ten people could disappear quite quickly into the fabric of the whole show. Laborers, mechanics, operators, drivers, office management, sales…

Got some snow yesterday followed by light rain had some trees break off one decent sized one fell over, pretty sad about this big limb though, this live oak is right in my front yard area and makes a great climbing tree for my kids.

It's actually to outfit a new region for a utility contract in northern NJ. It was such a relief to have so many qualified people apply and accept the positions. That was the big "unknown" for me when I bid the project.

That’s great! We hired one last week, we’re looking for one more, a lead climber, but it seems nearly impossible to find one around here. Four months of searching and not a single qualified applicant who will show up for an interview.
That is what we've seen typically as well. Getting the word out to the right people is not easy.

It sure isn’t! We’ve tried everything we can think of, we have a recruiting company that only searches for tree workers searching now and they’re not having much better results than we had on our own.

I can dig it. Nice! Good for Aspen, too. Now you can make a new thread titled ‘Utility Crew Upgrade’.

Not especially big or wild, but had a smooth operation on this uprooting white pine. It was over a septic field and rather than rig and climb we opted to do a controlled fall with 2 guy lines and a tag. Surprise hollow stump was unnerving though.

Wow. Looks like the stump let go on the left side. Glad it went into the lay, and glad you chose the guy lines. Always a safe bet if they’re clear to go over with the stem.

It held until the branches took significant weight on the ground, then it began to break/ pivot on the stump. Yes, thankfully the guy lines had no interference. Setup was about 1.25 hours, clean up was about 10 minutes. Nice for the last job of the day

Just curious, Mark, are you going to work with the folks in this new region? Afaik you work regularly with the team or teams in your current area.

Ran wire and installed a wind speed/direction sensor on the top of the mast of my buddy's sailboat. It was sitting in drydock at the marina and when we started it was calm and sunny. 10 minutes in it was very windy. As I finished, rain started. I much prefer trees but this made for some good pictures!
