Tips and Tricks

here's an old Dunlap pic. if you're on the cheap, this is the way to go. you can connect either end of the snap to your D. one way is like Tom D has here. or you can run the other eye of the snap through the biner that holds your prusik...my snap is between the legs of the prusik...I think it is anyway, I can't remember. point is though, some snaps are bigger than others and you may want to use the smaller hole of the snap to tend the prusik.

The brass snap works well. It would stink to get that prussic filled with sap :rayos:

Wow...that goes back a ways! A few itterations.

That's a double ended lanyard. The swivel snap is a slack tender for the primary end, the painted snap. If the swivel snap isn't taken off when using the red end it will be a reverse slack tender and you'll release your hitch...NOT GOOD!

I'm tired of my lanyard prusik jamming in my pulley. Does a small isc ring between the hitch and pulley help? Any other tricks? And I can't be persuaded to mechanical, unless someone wants to sponsor me :D
The right cordage combination should make your lanyard adjuster act like a mechanical. I'd think about fine tuning what you have.

For instance, my current lanyard is 7/16" KMIII Max with 8mm Globe 3000 tied in a 4/1 Michoacan over a Hitch Climber Pulley. Dang if this isn't the sweetest combo I've ever experienced.

I've wondered about globe as a prusik. How does the km111 handle the abrasion?
One thing I've wanted to eliminate is the hitchclimber from my lanyard, not just for jamming, but also to have backfor multiple systems after dedicating the cinch to pines. I want to try the swivel idea but am not ready to invest $70 in a hitch tender.

I did try a 3+1 with my hitch and liked it much better, just need a shorter one now with fewer wraps. Next is a dog snap as a tender.

Thanks everyone for the input.

It's KMIII Max, just to clarify. The Max is Didferent from normal KMIII due to the cover carrier weave pattern. It is the same number of carriers, but they aren't doubled up. They all run alone which makes for a very smooth finish.

I find it works very well as a positioning lanyard when pruning hardwoods. I used it recently in some large Pines and got a minor amount of pitch on that lanyard and did not notice any difference in performance. I'm certain that heavy pitch will make a difference for the worse, but still loving that combo.

As far as abrasion, I'm unsure since it rarely, if ever, runs under load. So far, the cover is holding up very nicely.

Just a little something for your tool box a relatively cheap if not free rope guard/friction device I picked up some old fire hose at the station one day that had been taken out of service it was double jacket so the top layer slid right off and I used it as a machete scabbard for the truck/or 4 wheeler and the other portion has two parts that are inner hose jacket and the actual hose its self take it turn it inside out and with rubber hose on the outside and you have your self a rope guard friction device that you can prob. Stop at your local FD and they will give you a roll of decommissioned hose.

I like to give my hand saw a tap on my scabbard before I put it away, helps to clear the excess shavings out. Forgot to do it once and my hand slid down the saw and cut my finger, there was a small piece of bark lodged in a tooth that prevented to saw from going in the scabbard.
I drilled a bigger hole in the tip of my scabbard because I had enough saw dust built up in there I couldn't get my zubat to go all the way down didn't thing anything of it till reached for my chain saw there was just enough stickin out that it cut my chainsaw lanyard in half. Not a big deal as I just lop off a few feet of one of my ropes and use a couple fishermans loops
