Throwline......1.75MM.....or.....2.2MM???

2.2 doesn't tangle as easily. Prefer 1.75 for long shots and returnability.

Who makes Fling It, Tom? I get ZI for about 20-22% cheaper than retail...and thus have nearly 500 feet of 1.75 and 700 feet of 2.2 still on the reel, since I just got a reel of each recently.

Fling it is made by Atlantic Braids in Canada.

I like 1.75mm Zing-it...the red color (which is actually pink). I wear Atlas gloves when throwing, so the small size doesn't bother me. That line let's me get high tosses if I need. I prefer throwing with an 8 ounce bag, so the lighter line let's the bag come down easy enough.

1/8th Weaver with 16oz throwline does me fine, good allrounder.

Tried Zing it, too thin to get a good grip for accurate release when throwing and too thin when pulling a rope up the tree, cuts into your hands big time. tangles too easily.

What anout NE endura?

I really hate Zing-It. It gets tangled way too easily. Brand new or broken in, it doesn't matter. You can play it all out on the ground on flat concrete, no twigs, and still when you throw it, you'll watch a big mass flying away from you. At least, that's my experience. I had much less trouble with Rhino line, though the last 300 foot roll I got had manufacturing defects and kept breaking. It's so frustrating. I'm going to try some of that gold-plated Dynaglide, just to check it out. I like the thinner lines in general, you can throw them much farther.

With 1.7mm ZI I can Bigshot a 10oz bag over a 75' crotch and still have a few feet to spare. The 2.2mm falls about 10 feet short of that. Plus, with the 2.2mm it doesn't fall as easily when it over twigs and stuff.

I agree about ZI being rough on the hands when pulling a rope through but I'm just so damn happy to be getting the other end of the rope on the ground I don't notice it very much.

Speaking of Bigshots, I never liked'em until I saw one where Tom Dunlap rigged a trigger on it. So I bought one and tried to duplicate it from memory. I'm sure mine's different but now I like Bigshots. I can hit the crotch I want 7 out 10 times on the first try... those other 3 can still get messy though.

Anyway, this it...

Thank you Tom, this device has saved me a lot of time already and easily paid for itself.

My boss just gave me some throwline that turns out to be great stuff, not sure who makes it but it's yellow and he said it's made with some sort of kevlar? I'll ask him who makes it.

Hey blinky, how does the 'trigger' part of that setup work. Also, is that a pulley you have there, good idea.

This is my current trigger setup...

The end of the rope is attached to the bottom of the lower four foot section. I glued on a PVC coupling then drilled through the coupling/pole and bolted on an eyebolt.

Pulling down on the rope gives me 2:1 os it's very easy. the tape marks are for relative windage. If one shot is too short/long I hold up the trigger mechanism to the mark and adjust the trigger for the next shot.

The trigger is an archery release I bought in a hunting/fishing shop for $12. I drilled the handle to string it with the pulley.

Sherrills has a better trigger but it was too pricey for me.

It's work in progress, Tom's seemed a lot easier to use than mine so I'm sure I haven't got it figured out just yet.

Where can I buy a full reel? the 180-ft hanks are just the wrong length to make two lines and too long for one. Plus, I assume a full reel is cheaper per foot.

I routinely hit 90-100 feet with 1.75, 2.0, and 2.2mm throwline using a Bigshot . Some of coworkers routinely hit 90-100 feet with 2.2mm throwline by hand.

I had the same experience. I've used it since Sherrill first started carrying it and it was my favorite line. Then the last one I bought seemed to break much more easily.

Why do you say it was a manufacturing defect?

I use 1.7mm Zing-it with 8oz. bags. This is my favorite setup for hand throws. Zing-it lasts longer than others, doesn't fray or glaze, and splices fairly well. I only have problems with tangling if it's been folded up in the cube for a more than a few days, but that's easy to fix. I like 2.2mm Fling-it with 10oz. bags for a back-up and for the Big Shot. Fling-it glazes badly and isn't spliceable but it's a nice size for the 10oz. NE DYNAGLIDE IS ALMOST THE WORST THROWLINE I HAVE EVER USED. After about 2 days it frays so badly that I could probably use a 5 lb. weight and STILL get the line stuck in a bark fissure or branch bark ridge! Dynaglide splices easily and is very strong so I use it for accessory cord and such.

Sorry to hear that. I just bought some and have only used it to lengthen another line.

Here are some pics of the stuff I've been using the last month or so. It was given to me so I don't know who makes it but it's great stuff, doesn't have a lot of 'memory' like the zing-it lines I was using (felt broken in right off the reel) and is pretty light too.

I've been using an 8oz. (minus a couple dozen beads that fell out the first throw when the bag exploded on me) on one end and a 16 oz. on the other for thicker barked trees, about 150ft is working well too.
