This is the Akimbo

Not to be a party pooper but think I will be happy to wait and buy one after you all give feed back and it becomes the end product. The BDB went thru many changes. The Wraptor went thru many changes...patience is a virtue sometimes. Now were he selling stock, might be another story.

For me as a Toolmaker first, I look at it slightly differently. There is nothing I can't tweak or modify. First thing I did with the runner was make my own friction body and add bird cushions. Nothing is ever finished, just at varying stages of greatness.

$100 gets you $150 off one of the First Production runs. Not a bad deal.

What range of rope diameters does the Akimbo work with? What rope have you found to work best with the device?....

I have had to little time on it to play around with different ropes. It works well with Tachyon which is a nice middle of the road kind of rope. The Akimbo has ecccentric cams both top and bottom for tuning it to the line. This should go a long way towards it working on a variety of ropes.

So if someone were to donate $200 - they'd get that further $100 taken off a (possibly) $300 device? - EDIT - I've since found out that you'd get $50 discount on each of two devices.

Could be wrong - but the two ropes in the video seem to be Yale Kernmaster Safari and New England DragonFly (both 11mm).

I think someone here has already donated this amount.

Im unsure what the best way to go about the $200 donation will be. definitely will get you $50 off two. i want to be sure that those who donated $300 feel like they made a good choice.

I don't think this is revolutionary but rather evolutionary. So why would someone want to jump in and buy the first one during development? You won't get a free upgrade I bet. And using something under development for LIFE support just doesn't appeal to me again after doing it with the Zigzag and BDB. Both of those transitioned and the ZZ is still being tweaked having cracking issues. Is there independent lab testing?

I will definitely be a buyer/customer later tho.

I don't have any mechanical multiscenders but I've followed every thread, read every review and watched all the videos waiting for the one that provides the smooth function of the rope runner combined with the on off capabilities of the bull dog bone ( and if it could work on htp that be cool too). But when it comes to testing the first ones out it seems that most people ready to grab one are almost collectors of these tools. They know the risks and I'm sure have a consistent thought process to gradually go from low and slow to out on a long limb walk. These opinions are the best ones to listen too and find out the ins and outs of each situation you could find yourself in with these devises. Good luck with the akimbo jmerritt. I will be following this closely.

I think what's going on is the Akimbo won't be a reality if people don't contribute. Those that are able to and are willing to are giving Jamie the ability to continue bringing this tool along. Testing costs a whole lot of money! So in theory, nobody would get an Akimbo if it weren't for those donating right now. I'm just sorry I'm not one of them.

This is true.

I find it hard to talk about things like this without sounding like a salesman. I am not and have no interest in the Akimbo other than how it performs. I have always enjoyed all aspects of our industry including this technical climbing equipment side.
I think that the Akimbo is both, evolutionary and revolutionary. It obviously borrows heavily from other tools of this type but there are some things that Jaime has incorporated in his design that are unique and are the reason for its pleasant on-rope feel and performance.
It should be remembered this tool has been under development for a long time by a climber whose main interest was improved performance as opposed to a large company whose main interest is sales.

I think were I sent a free unit I might embellish a tad. Remember we are comparing with state of the are in the bdb and rr and perception is sometimes a little cloudy when you have something brand new. At its best does it perform BETTER than these with the proper rope installed? Multi line usage is sure a selling point...but not boggling to the point on here imo.

I try not to embellish though I guess it must sound like that some times. So much of what we like and are comfortable with reflects our own personal preferences and I try to make it clear when I write about a tool of this sort, that these are things that work for me or are things that I like.
I have actually been given many things to test but have only written about a few. I have also purchased many items I have given feedback on. I am not easily impressed or blinded by glitter. I have no trouble being vocal about the things I like but I do have trouble saying negative things about things I don't like so as to not prejudice or prevent others from trying them.
