This is the Akimbo

Yes, I have both and the Unicender, the Akimbo is a better tool. It combines the best attributes of each, such as: easy on and off the rope like the Uni and BDB. It has a slack tending roller like the RR so tailing the rope is smooth and consistent.
All the other tools work well but each have certain design restraints in either performanceor or convenience. For instance, the built in tending shackle can be loaded with a chest harness set high and tight so the Akimo supports your upper body like a chest roller. It will not disengage or over power the tool grip if you go limp and hang from it. Being able to set things tight means not only better support but the sit back from rope walking to resting is almost nonexistent. You can not do this with either the RR or BDB and the Uni doesn't have a roller.
The Akimbo still has some hoops to jump through, the biggest one being load testing. There are also some adjustments being made in hardware and fine-tuning mechanisms. Once these have been squared away and this tool becomes available, IMO, it should be the hot ticket.

Supported!

DSMc, how do you find the initial release of friction compared to the rest of the devices. I'm on a rope runner now and it is a bit stiff on the initial"break of the bird". Thanks for your feedback.

I would call the initial release firm but not annoyingly so. Lighter than the RR and the heavier aluminum plating and its shape feels more comfortable under pressure. The modulation for speed of descent required no learning curve and felt natural and smooth. I really had to keep reminding myself that this was just a rough prototype.

Oooooooooh! Gimme gimme!

What range of rope diameters does the Akimbo work with? What rope have you found to work best with the device?

This is exciting, I can't wait to see the break testing results. :reloco:

Not to be a party pooper but think I will be happy to wait and buy one after you all give feed back and it becomes the end product. The BDB went thru many changes. The Wraptor went thru many changes...patience is a virtue sometimes. Now were he selling stock, might be another story.

I personally appreciate that approach but I think this is different. (This is the fourth edit of what I wanted to say)
