This is the Akimbo

In the almost 2000 posts, no one has talked about a spring?

I do not honestly know. I had read through that thread at various times, but it is possible that I may have missed the mention of the spring. I'll need to go back and get caught up with all of the posts in that thread.

Surveyor did give a really good answer to my query in the "Compact Bulldog Bone" thread just today, on page 171 of that thread, which was greatly appreciated. It is not my intent to hijack this thread. Apologies to Jaime.

And how about the rope wrench, does anybody know where the spring is located on that? (Beyond the life support hitch)
The rubber grommet on top of the tether is supposed to be the "spring". The Wrench, tether, and hitch are all supposed to work as one system, so by technicality, the grommet on the tether is "part" of the Wrench.

Not slitting hairs with you, just throwing it out there.

Thanks Oceans, perfectly said. I wasn't testing knowledge as I'm not qualified to do that, just trying to clarify the importance of the spring in most of our devices.
I'll put a video on another thread.

Nice work, it looks like you are really on to something. I'd be happy to be in on a first run/beta test after you do some destructive testing.

The sideloading integrity testing mentioned by the inventor is crucial imo. I think that is what is breaking all the Zigzags in the hole by the spring mount (I have broken 3). How many times do you get stuck with your hitch getting side loaded while climbing? Not many...but all it takes is (inadvertently) once to destroy a mechanical which would be no issue with a Blakes, Prussic etc. Think of a knee getting hit sideways by a linebacker.

It hasn't stopped me a day of climbing Ben. I was on crutches while plowing and that would have been a great comedy vid, but still need a knee replacement to go back to sports. Thanks for asking.

Have you seen heard of a version 3 breaking or cracking? I have one version 3 and no problems so far, I sent my last version two in with a crack and waiting for the replacement. This level does make it nice so you can turn it in a position not to sideload.

I am waiting for one to come back, sent about a week ago. Is there an obvious difference or "Version 3" on the box.? I am pretty sure I got the #2 but no word from petzl stating it had even been changed.

Now they are making it very clear...you only get 3 year guar.
