I believe when tending a mechanical we need to pay more attention to supporting the weight below the attachment point of the device. If added up the ring/plates used to attach the bridge, the ring and/or swivel on the bridge, the weight of the webbing attaching the leg loops and the leg loops have enough weight to engage the arms of the device creating unwanted drag.
For the brilliant engineers out there, this could be something to consider solving in the next generation of devices, perhaps a lower cam that opens automatically to lift the chain of life support below it when the hinge is angled for ascent.
Just thinking out loud, I have to stretch pretty hard to try to find a first world problem to complain about and I'm still coming up short.
Or just connect the point below (in my case the top of my swivel) with either of the awesome devices we have now! Anytime I have connected my tending harness to the device directly it sucks. But connect to that swivel, ring or plate below and presto smooth as butter.

Any chance of getting you to post a photo of your setup? I'll understand if it's asking too much. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Hmmm, skip the tending shackle altogether.... brilliant, I need the rain to stop so I can test that out.
My current setup is - rope bridge > aluminum ring > locking biner > Akimbo
I might test a small parachord loop through the lower connection point on the Akimbo, or the carabiner below. You would have to attach in a way that will not disrupt the Akimbo's position on the carabiner, I wouldn't want it to get askew and sideload anything.
Shucks didn't think I was gonna have the extra time this morning. Here's the picture.
