This is the Akimbo

The spring and cam on the top friction point was developed to address that problem. If the top cam is in enough contact with the rope, it will set automatically.

What Dave said. The later versions all have spring loaded top cams to ensure that it engages the rope every time. The spring is not critical to safe operation, it's more for consistency and convenience.

Much to my dismay I'm shipping Jamie his demo akimbo today. Made me really sad. I decided to go back to the runner today so I wouldn't have too much separation anxiety. I'm still sad but thankful that the runner is just as bad ass as the akimbo. Felt like home today. Haven't climbed on anything but akimbo since January. Well I did BDB my tail a few times.

Sent mine off today as well. Had to have one UPS guy sit on me while another one took the box out of my hands, but it's off.

Well after moving states and getting the family settled I am finally back in the trees, 34 degrees on a beautiful Wisconsin day, perfect for an Akimbo ride. @JMerritt came through (with more than an upgrade) and I am climbing, pruning, and bombing out of every carbon based life form that doesn't run away from me. Will post some adventures and tricks I am picking up from you guys and gals in the rec climbing section as I go.

I'm really impressed with the quality of the Mad Rock Ultra Tech carabiners. Compact and smooth operation! Campsaver may still have them on sale for $7.77.

Those are my favs, small profile, double or triple acton locks, and great price. On the double action version the twist tends to catch a little just before the gate is clear to swing open, but I have more expensive locking biners that do that as well, once you get used to using a firm twist it goes away.

It also doesn't hurt that they color coordinate with the Akimbo, I just need matching red socks to complete the ensemble for those formal, black tie climbs. :coffe:
