This is the Akimbo

There's only one cure, Steve... I'll send you a prepaid, pre-addressed shipping container.
Container, it just got real. I was thinking about our conversation earlier regarding rope size. The weight of the climber vs rope diameter maybe another factor one should consider.

The gray is puke? I like the way it looks, though my blue is my baby. I need an orange to round out my trifecta. I need a wrench rope, a mechanical rope and a whatever the hell else rope.

Back to the akimbo. I want a BDB but man the akimbo and the tantalizing teasing of it being sprung on the market make it hard to choose.

I was also debating on whether I could hold out for the akimbo or get a BDB. I have heard from someone in RE marketing that the RR2 is looking like mid-late spring 2017...and the akimbo more like Fall 2017!
I got to try out a akimbo at a treestuff party, really liked it after playing with the adjustments. It was on Yale kernmaster.
Of course missed the boat on the GoFund, and I'm to impatient to wait till Fall, ordered the new adjustable BDB and I'm very happy with it.
When the Akimbo does drop I will be in line for one. Like another poster said, if Jamie did make a few extra from this GoFund batch I'd like to get on the list for one of those. Even though I would be on the bottom of that list.

Damn, I guess my HH2 has one more year of climbing ahead of it.

I doubled my climbing systems yesterday. Akimbo on the primary tie in srt with the bone on the tail ddrt. Fun to use them both at the same time. I am still not getting the performance from this akimbo. The Bdb was better on ddrt and srt but it may just be the rope. It's still badass just slower srt than the Bdb was ddrt. Gonna order some Aztec tomorrow and check that out. Fun having a. Midline attachable mechanical on both ends of my line. Could we call them
Cousins?

To elaborate on my brothers post:

It goes up the rope smooth as butter.

It goes down the rope nicely, release is smooth, finger touch.

Then Bam! It seizes on the rope and you can't break it loose with two hands.

Going up the rope a bit seems to reset things temporarily.

Anybody else have this issue? Fixes? Thoughts?

Rocket, be careful. I have one of the early prototypes and it has never behaved like that. Go over it carefully looking for anything bent or loose. I'm assuming this is not from pine pitch or some other rope grunge? It almost sounds like the cams are slipping out of their locked in position.

Any thoughts on the prototype versions are just that as we all may have various models. Mine for sure as I modified it not long after getting it. But the best option with all of them is to move one cam, one hole at a time and retry. For the current problem above I would start with one position looser on the bottom cam or one position tighter on the upper cam. Both senerios will reduce the friction applied to the lower leg so test it low and make sure you stop as expected. The frictional relationships was something I modified right away. It is also one of the things that Jamie worked on prior to final versions.

And what he said too.

Rocket it sounds like one of three things is happening.
1. Sap. Possibly there is a sap spot on the rope? I have had a horrible time dealing with sap on any mechanical and the Akimbo is no different.
2. You've got the top adjustment too loose. If the top adjustment is too open for the diameter rope your using it will flip the cam up and lock onto the rope. Try setting the top one notch tighter and the bottom one notch looser.
3. The top cam could be worn down and your getting the same situation as #2.

Regardless I'd like to see pictures of the top cam and if it continues to not work properly you'll need to send it back to me so I can inspect it. Porkbrick@yahoo.com is my email. Cheers. Jaime

If needed I can run down your way rocket bros and take some measurements and help you figure akimbo out. Is the one you guys have equipped with the longer arms on the lower.

I Had the exact problem. I had started using it on an older rope. I had to move to a brand new rope and that allowed me to dial it in so it was "true" to the rope. I was then able to fiddle with the settings a bit. I will see as my rope gets broken in the performance drops a bit. My plan is to try another rope brand and see what's up there. Initially I had to bench the akimbo until I could snag a new rope from the garage and get on it.

It looks straight and tight. The rope is in good shape, no gunk.

I'll fiddle with it some more and we'll let you know. Scenario #2 seems likely to me.

I've got some new rope, I'll give it a go. Thanks.
