I just put a caliper on...
Under how much tension? OEMs measure them at 40~50 lbs, some a bit more.

To state the obvious, the Akimbo is the first top and bottom adjustable multicender, this opens up so many rope possibilities.
I just got mine from TS today. Ordered 11/2.I just got off the phone with Treestuff. Apparently they don't have their first shipment yet. Are these Akimbos y'all are posting all GoFundMes? I thought the non-gofundmes were arriving also. Why would RE hold out on TreeStuff and give the other suppliers theirs first?

Like that time I got mauled by a dumpster panda when looking for sample wineFeels like that moment just before a polar bear comes rushing out of the coconut palms at you. You know?
keep in mind too that even though the cams are not anodized there will be a bit of a break in period. as the cams polish with use the action should become smoother.Alright, got her out of the box, threw a rope 15' up in the ornamental in the front yard, and did some adjusting.
I'm currently climbing on Samson Tangent, which is advertised as an 11.8mm line. I've been very pleased with its performance in my Zigzag, but I noted quickly that it's not on the present rope list. I'll also note that it's a spongey 24-strand, and not as firm even as the Yale 11.7's, not to mention the available range of smoother static lines.
First impressions: I'm 150 lbs. soaking wet, and I couldn't get it to really play nice until the friction bollards were virtually all the way open. I still felt a little bit like I was trying too hard to release friction, and that the top was uncomfortable on my hands due to the pressure necessary, but then again, I'm used to Zigzag levels of smooth and easy release.
What I settled on is that the device becomes easier or harder to actuate based on your position. This may be elementary for a lot of you, but to move the top bollard of the device to descend, you're actually fighting your own weight a little, so the further out away from your tip you go, the smoother you're able to move. With time, I'll get used to it. The midline attachability alone is worth the price of admission.
I also expect that a smoother, firmer static line will make a big difference. The spongier rope, naturally, is flattening out against the side plates and such (a little) as it passes through, adding more uncontrollable friction. In short, the recommended ropes are there for a reason. Further personal experimentation necessary.
I've used a Rope Runner only on one occasion, and disliked it immediately. Just wasn't my cup of tea. I bought the Akimbo because I didn't want to rely on the Zigzag for SRT purposes...that just doesn't sit well with me since I've already sent one ZZ in with cracked links. I already like this much better than the Runner. I am still very impressed with the device, and am looking forward to putting it to work.
That's been a top contender in my head for awhile.I've used many different ropes on 3 different versions of the Akimbo and my favorite (though it's not too far ahead of others) has been the Drenaline. It's also my rope of choice for the ZZ.
