There is probably no God

I can tell you this - in the world he suppossedly created there is more evil than anywhere a natural process can occur unempeded.

If man were created in his image, than he's as fallible as a alcoholic falling off the wagon, or the executioner who pulls the trigger, or the merchant selling fish bumperstickers and video membership from the pulpit.

I won't compel you to deny his existance, but rather accept his being as the earth around us and everything that's evolved because of it. The white guy with a beard in Heaven is the pipe dream of conspirators who wish only to subjegate and control with fear, while taking your money for personal use like methamphetamines and young male prostitutes.

And if there Is a God, which one of them is the right one?
There appear to be many, and a paperback book gilded with gold wasn't even written by him, but men many years later.

Or you can continue thinking that Adam and Eve were our progenitors 6,000 years ago and Saddam was going to launch an airstrike against the U.S. mainland in .45 minutes and that we're winning in Iraq - 'specially when we send a few tens of thousands of more troops over there.

You've got a choice to make.

Ignore for a minute two things:
1) All the stupid formulas by the scientists,
2) Any lame excuse; such as "The lord works in mysterious ways."

Just go with your heart. Is it right or is it wrong? No excuses from either side.

1) A baby born with birth defects. God would be fair.
2) A baby born with both sets of sexual organs. God would not only be fair, he would not be the type of practical joker that would regard homosexuality as abominable behavior and then create impossible scenarios for people to achieve his/(her?) specifications.
3) A baby going to hell because it died before it was baptized. A hard and fast rule for Christianity, but is that fair?

Look within yourself, ignore all the theories, do right and wrong matter?

Since you used "probably," I think you'd be better off with the agnostics. I think they are taking applications.

I don't know for sure if there is a God, but the probablity is very slim indeed. If I said I was a Christian I would be kidding myself, but I do agree with many aspects of the Christian ethos(New Testament) but certainly not atonement for original sin.
Saying that your child is born sinful is wrong to me.

The God that is described in the Old Testament 'Yahweh' or "Jehovah" whatever you want to call him is a vicious, violent God, not someone who I would ever want to use as an example of how to live my life well.

I suppose real Christians are very rare, there are people who call themselves Christians who use it as an excuse for moral righteousness. These people turn me off religion.
Then there are the creationists, who from my point of view are doing their very best to give Christianity a bad name. They are also teaching their children a pack of lies.

I thought of making the leap of faith to become an Atheist because I am very interested in nature, which leads me a way from the idea of a God. Its just so random and beautiful and cruel all at the same time. I am very fortunate to have been given life to see and explore this wonderful world. To just accept that this world was made by a single entity is insulting to my intelligence. We don't have all the answers and we never will, thats the whole point of life.

Having said that, Should the truth about the world exist it is more than likely that it is nonhuman. But not necessarily an all seeing all knowing God In the sky. Something else entirely.

Its in our nature to want to believe it must be a survival mechanism that gives us hope.

There have been so many religions in the history of the world.

But just because it gives some us hope it does not mean that it is true.

I am starting to feel that it is better to accept the bracing truth of life than just be comfortable in my own little religion which excludes non believers.

human beings on the whole are weak creatures....we all need a little something to make ourselfs feel better when we're down. some turn to religion, others turn to drugs and alcohol, but everyone has SOMETHING

Jackson Browne

Oh people, look around you
The signs are everywhere
You've left it for somebody other than you
To be the one to care
You're lost inside your houses
There's no time to find you now
Your walls are burning and your towers are turning
Im going to leave you here and try to get down to the sea somehow

The road is filled with homeless souls
Every woman, child and man
Who have no idea where they will go
But theyll help you if they can
Now everyone must have some thought
Thats going to pull them through somehow
Well the fires are raging hotter and hotter
But the sisters of the sun are going to rock me on the water now

Rock me on the water
Sister will you soothe my fevered brow
Rock me on the water
I'll get down to the sea somehow

Oh people, look among you
It's there your hope must lie
Theres a sea bird above you
Gliding in one place like jesus in the sky
We all must do the best we can
And then hang on to that gospel plow
When my life is over, I'm going to stand before the father
But the sisters of the sun are going to rock me on the water now

Rock me on the water
Sister will you soothe my fevered brow
Rock me on the water, maybe I'll remember
Maybe I'll remember how
Rock me on the water
The wind is with me now
So rock me on the water
I'll get down to the sea somehow

Jackson Browne was also partly responsible for that terrible Eagles song, "James Dean' you know the really irritating one, 'James Dean! James Dean! na na na nnaannanannn" Shut up Eagles!

Why do so many treeguys like Jackson Browne?

I know another one who regularly quotes his lyrics, and I'm like, "Yeah man, yeah" feeling like some old 60s hippy. But in my head I'm like, "Oh God, here we go again with the Jackson Browne lyrics" I just dont get it.

Religion has been the influence for many great works of art down throughout the centuries, thats fine. I totally agree.

But it does not mean that it is true.

If the religious people of the world would just admit that they have made a leap of faith that would be fine. There is no evidence for the existence of God.

Show me the evidence and I will be the first to say I was wrong. But even if he did exist I have to decide wether or not to do what he said.

God told Abraham to kill his son Isaac.

If your neighbour told you he was going to kill his son because God told him to you would probably think he had gone insane.

Right? or am I wrong?

Nice one TreeCo, I was starting to get a bit ridiculous sounding. Thanks for bringing me back down to earth to be with the lowlife.

Jackson Browne, he's ok.

I prefer Josh Ritter
