The Goblin

I know that backup devices are not much used in tree care but with the increase use of SRT and different techniques to ascend and change over in some cases I was looking to see if anyone has tried this out yet. Looks smooth and seems to address the issues that have caused the Shunt to be all but wiped of the map when it comes to following standards of SRT work. Thoughts on it anyone?

I haven't used it too often.

When I get home ill post pics of an ascent system that used the Rocker.

The Goblin seems like it has more features than the Rocker. For tree climbers I wnder if they are necessary though.

Many years ago I made this setup. The upper is a microcender, the lower is the where I put the Rocker instead of the Micro that's in the pic.

In use, I'd grab the rope and push the micro up just the same way that an ascending loop would be used. The Rocker would be dragged along as a passive, second attachment point. Not really a backup, more of a redundancy.

Look at the second pic for a better idea of the lower configuration

The Rocker is on the other side.

The Stubby thing is to keep the Rocker located up top and not let it slide down the other leg of the biner. Think of it as a slack tender for the Rocker.
