The Garden Professors

OK.
How trees are managed depends on the objective.
I'd personally rather see a full-grown tree there, but I don't own it, or know enough to judge. That treetment would not arouse such indignation in other cultures.
Can you elaborate on reasons for this US>ISA-centric reaction?

The GPs do a good job busting some myths, but they create and reinforce a few as well.

why they hate on the CT so bad? Could it be that they can't profit from it?

mmm...not sure that's the motive with the U Extension folks, as they aint sellin nothin. (tho they may be in an economic bed with those who do) But others who dis CT do go out of their way to make it look bad. One study factored in the cost of the brewer ($5K) for one batch, and concluded that it was too expensive. okaaayyyy....Other studies by chemo-centric companies may be a tad biassed. If it does no harm, why work so hard to make it look bad?

Part of the challenge with compost tea is that the process is more involved than just tank mixing a product and applying it. The whole soil/plant environment needs management for CT to really show a benefit. I'm not agin' it in the least, I think on depauperate sites it can do wonders, but it can (or always) require an ongoing committment which can involve a complete re-assessment of the other plant protection chemicals being used. And that reassssmen is not bad, but it is more than a single spray or drench application of a canned product.
