Thanks to Mark Chisolm!

Wanted to send a big thanks to Mark Chisolm for his participation at the Tree & Turf event in Augusta this past week. Thanks Mark!

Besides having a great day doing some great tree work, I learned a new knot (knot with pulley) from mark that I'm going to try out asap. I can't believe I've been climbing for almost ten years without that knot!

Watching Mark Chisolm climb was great too! I've seen plenty of 'fast' climbers before, but in my experience they've just been RUSHING! This was different!

Tierson,
What is the name of the knot?
Is the pully used as a slack tender?

I would also like to thank Mark and Scott and Brian and the many others that worked and hosted the event. The way everyone there acted and was willing to share any information they had was more than impressive. And Yes Mark did a demonstration that reiterates the he will be a legend in this industry.

I think the knot is an M.T. (really not sure) but it looks like a V.T. with four wraps and the crossing the braids.

The pulley is a slack tender and is set up on the three holed mickey mouse type pulley.

Thanks again to everyone involved.

I wasn't there, but I'm glad everyone had a good time. Mark, Scott, and Brian do a great job.

FYI

Wraps and then braids with a cross is an XT.

The pulley with two holes is a Micro Mouse pulley.

The pulley with three holes is a Hitch Climber.

Alrignt, I am getting confused. Can someone post some picts of the MT and XT? I climb on the VT so I know what that is, but it might be nice to post a pict of that too just for comparison. Thanks.

It wasn't so much the knot itself that impressed me..I mean I've seen the micropulley together with that kind of knot before. I've just never seen anybody trying to swing around that much or use the knot so well.

I've always thought, "That's a neat knot, but what can you do with it that you can't do with a regular old blake's hitch?"

Now I feel like I ought to go to St. Louis and see more. I'll definetly go the the Southern Chapter meeting in March. Who else is attending that?

Here's a little better picture of that knot again

Any other pictures of this knot? Haven't seen it before and looks interesting.

i would like to say thanks to mark c. as well. it was an awesome thing for him to share so much info. that knot was basically a vt except the first braid after the four wraps is turned backwards on itself.then the remaining two braids procede in the regular fashion. i don't know if that is what you call an xt or not. if mark adams says it is i'm sure it probably is though.

Thanks for the pics and the link. The XT looks interesting. Is it commonly assumed that that knot performs better than the VT or is that not true? I have never seen this knot before and I am looking forward to trying it.

i've had the hitch climber for about two months and i haven't found anything that i dislike about it yet. i think it even runs smoother than a regular micro pulley, but that might just be my imagination
