Texas Tug question....

This could be all in my head, but I am not seeing any advantage in using a Texas Tug over just a straight up link on a Butterfly cinched....... I could be wrong for sure and will be testing this thought out for sure. Wanted to know what the thoughts of the other climbers that are using it are. Why do you do it? and what is the advantage to you?

Did you check out the canopy anchor thread, I think I read something in there about making retrieval easier when there are redirects invovled. Assuming you mean the additional pulley and such.

I did I must had missed it in there when skimming through it....... Im starting to think it is not offering really all that much help with friction loss. It could be all in my head though...'

I don't trust delta link or any kind of gear choked around a tree anymore. To much weird thing have happen this year for us. The texas thug give me opportunity to retreive my set-up without any problems while having a R.bowline around the tree wich is minimalist and really safe. But its not magic...Others methods work also.

I've been in a situation where I've come down and couldn't pull my line out due to too much friction using a delta link and had to climb back up and pull my redirects back out before coming down. Kinda sucked. Haven't had to do it yet using the Texas tug method. Just one less point of friction on retrieval without having to put the pinto in a potentially bad loading situation.

As climbers gain more experience climbing on choked canopy anchors and redirects they'll know how many redirects are too much for pulling out the choke and redirects from the ground. It's easy enough to back out through a couple redirects before you descend when you know the friction is going to be too much.
