Texas TCC

What a fun week!

It was a blast to have the out of towners, including two Kiwis, in Fort Worth for the comp. The trees were wonderful and close together. Our prayers were answered, the weather was beautiful. Although...I did hear that it was cold on Friday morning, didn't seem like it to me but I'm still not 'from' Texas yet :)

The recreational climb seemed pretty popular too! Thanks Jim !!

The first Texas Geezers Invitational will be held in the DFW Metroplex this fall, likely in October. Climbers will be over forty and judges/techs under forty on the date of the comp.

Tom you have to work outside thru a Texas summer before you get cold in the 60s.Some thing about 100 degrees for 50 to 60 straight days kinda changes your internal thermometer.

100 degrees for 50-60 days straight gets into your mind. Aaah, but its a dry(er) heat than New Orleans or places South and East.

I'm looking through my roster and there was more than 40 entries in the rec. climb. Thanks to all that helped out. Great group of volunteers and helpers (tweens and teens of our arbo family), to make it safe and fun.

Congrats Miguel. Great to see you take your daughter out to climb after Masters.

After a 3-year hiatus as a judge, I managed to improve my AR quite a bit from previous comps, but still not enough to take a prize. Going into TL, I knew I was close to the cutoff and needed a big 20. Whether nerves or bad luck, I couldn't pull it out--finally settled for a 5 and a 3 (at the buzzer). I was relieved (and disappointed) to see I needed about 21 points anyway, so no harm done.

That Miguel is a speed demon. He was right behind me all day and made me look like the geezer I am. I managed to snag a few points in FL, but he smoked the belayed climb and left me with a goose egg. We had to do both sprints back-to-back, so I felt lucky to make it to the bell. Thank God for uglies!

Much dissension over the winner, as Jimmy said, but with five judges, including some of the best climbers in the world, I won't second-guess. Congrats to Miguel. Go get 'em!

Oh, by the way, a double congrats to Ramona, our first woman competitor (on our 25th anniversary). I hope we'll see her against some in-division opponents next year.

Thanks Nat,

The hi-res of Steve and Miguel you can read the plate on the trophy.

Captured the spirit of sharing, fellowship, challenges, and fun.

You're invited to Geezers, although your borderline on the age, so maybe you'll get to climb AND photograph.
