TCI's Effer 655 Knuckle Boom

Re: TCI\'s Effer 655 Knuckle Boom

ahwwww, I'm sorry to here that Classic, I wonder why that is?

I'm going to be thinking on this for a few days now wondering why you might not like it...

I wonder what the difference is?

Are you spider legging your picks? Or rigging them for not much movement? Or are you needing a very fast opperator to get the pick away from you; the climber?

Re: TCI\'s Effer 655 Knuckle Boom

No no xman, I'm quite skilled at rigging for no movement, I just felt that trying to do 2 jobs at once actually slowed down production, if I was just operating I can have a good view and influence everything on the jobsite whereas if I am doing both I was concentrating on one job then the other without making plans on where the pick was going to go and how I was going to lay it down etc. So for the cost of an extra man onsite I can produce alot more.

Hey UrbanTC,

Congrats on the purchase and build. That is one heck of a piece of equipment. Love to see that thing in action on the job.

Re: TCI\'s Effer 655 Knuckle Boom

Very nice rig!

I can see "both sides of the coin" for operating the Kboom from the tree vs. the ground. If you have a Rig'Em & Roll, it would be awesome to operate from the tree because you wouldn't always have to climb out to the next rigging point. Therefore, the production would be improved.

If you didn't have luxury of a R&R, it is more effecient for the climber to be climbing to the rigging points while the crane operator is flying to the climber. It is a waste of time to wait for the crane hook to fly a climber to the rigging points.

...And I understand that not all tree removals are favorable for the climber to climb out to the rigging points. Especially if the top center leader is cut out first. Then, the climber must wait for a ride to set the rigging.

But, the energy saved for the climber being flown to the rigging points is something to consider. It may prove best to have a energized climber than a little more effeciency. Especially for large trees, or long days...

Re: TCI\'s Effer 655 Knuckle Boom

If it's a hot day, I often like the crane to fly me to the next rigging point to stay cooler. If it's a cold day, I often like to beat the crane to the next rigging point to get warm.

Great looking truck/crane. Can't wait to see action shots. What is the total hook height? It is the Effer 655 is that the 6s? and with the jib how many sections does that have? What is the max lift next to the truck and then max at fully extended?

Great pics, I too am psyched to see action shots and hear how you like it.

Re: TCI\'s Effer 655 Knuckle Boom

By versatility vs. a boom truck or truck crane, do you mean cuz you can haul logs with it or is it more versatile re picking vs. a regular crane?

I'd say both. A kboom can set up in tighter more restricted spots. There is mor versatility with the unit design itself too.

Few pictures from today. I was able to load the mini and the stump grinder on the bed, no need for trailers today.

Nice work on the machine. I looked at the PDF you posted earlier but couldn't figure out the capacities, I believe they were all metric.

Also, do you, or any other owners find it difficult sneaking her through brush and branches with all the hoses, etc on the exterior of the boom? We have a standard Terex Stinger 23.5T straight boom, and that two block cable is always catching on something.....lots of tight (low clearance)neighborhoods around here. Nice work!
