TCI's Effer 655 Knuckle Boom

Re: TCI\'s Effer 655 Knuckle Boom

Nice truck!

What a nice place to work, big tools to make big trees disappear. Nice ALOC too!

How far are you from Defiance Ohio? I'm headed out there for Friday morning.

Also, do you, or any other owners find it difficult sneaking her through brush and branches with all the hoses, etc on the exterior of the boom? We have a standard Terex Stinger 23.5T straight boom, and that two block cable is always catching on something.....lots of tight (low clearance)neighborhoods around here. Nice work!

[/ QUOTE ]

yes, its better with the jib though because it doesn't have the hose chains or reels on the side of it.

not that i know of yet, it tells % capacity. But Classic(james) bought a seperate tool that was supposed to remotely tell him the weight. Glad you brought it up Jamin. James, how did it do?

Once you go with a wireless anit-block, you'll never go back! I have a CraneSmart unit on my Manitex, like you I had a constant issue with snagging that ATB cable on branches, just driving it into jobs, worth the dough in the long run.

What is the total hook height? It is the Effer 655 is that the 6s? and with the jib how many sections does that have? What is the max lift next to the truck and then max at fully extended?

[/ QUOTE ]

It is the 6s+ jib 6s with 2 manual extensions. That is 6 sections on the main boom and 6 on the jib with two pull outs. Total hook height is 126' and can lift 39,240 lbs at the base and at 112'.3" totally horizontal it can lift right at 1,100 lbs.

Re: TCI\'s Effer 655 Knuckle Boom

I had a remote on a Terex 3470 I had a few years back, and all I can say is once you get a handle on how to run it, you ARE Superman! It was crude (NBB)compared to what you have, though I have heard since that even for the stick booms they are much advanced now. I hope to find out with my next crane, this year it looks like. GREAT picture, loaded for bear!

I wanna play with you guys! Next time I'm in Dayton, I have to drop you a line and see if you are using this kboom for a job. I would love to see it in action. My GF is heading out there in 2 weeks, I doubt I'll be out this time though.

I too would like to know how you liked running the boom while climbing?

I personally don't like it, I feel I can do a much better job of operating while standing on the ground.

I have no issues what so ever. I find it easier as I know what to do and what to go for and don't have to explain. Today a co-worker and I did a medium sized Sugar Maple removal. We were done by lunch. If we had the third guy with us it would have slowed it down. It just seemed so much faster as I didn't have to explain why we were do this and why we were doing that. We just did it! I know it's not for every tree, but I will use it when I know it will be more productive.
