Targeting high end clients.

When I encourage the guys on my crew to interact with the clients, I realize that the clients are almost certainly more educated than they are. Rich clients tend to sense when a blue collar dude is trying to weasel his way into their wallets. I had a bullshitter of a ground man and it was painful to hear his matter-of-fact declarations and attempts to string together words he was clearly unaccustomed to using. Sometimes it's better not to try to be like the client. Humbly do kickass work. Some of these rich clients are actually intelligent and in this world of bullshitting contractors who can't get their own shit together these folks will recognize your worth and will delight in passing your name along to their friends.
If they don't know they will research it. Did a cleaning of two cryptomeria's after having a lab diagnose it. When I explained to the client what the results were she immediately wanted to read up on them to become informed. I handed her the lab report with the proper spelling and she was thrilled.

Know who you're dealing with beforehand. With many of the very wealthy you'll be able to find profiles online for them.
 
I'm sure this has been stated in one fashion or another. Start getting to know these people as people. Go to events that they attend ( most likely will be fund raisers and such). Join local clubs, Lions Club for example, but most of all don't try to sell them all the time. Nothing worse then a person that just wants to sell something to you all the time, right? Well what would make you think they feel any different? Do this, join one of the local clubs, introduce yourself but not so heavy as the " local tree guy". Strike up a conversation with a few people that you want to. Then go home and find out what these people are in to in life ( outside of what they spoke about with you). then next time you see them casually bring that subject up. But try to understand, this is more about just being a good person and being friendly then trying to get money.
 
How do you go about targeting clients with homes in the 500k+range? There are many beautiful property's in my area of Tulsa but I have noticed how so many companys never seem too get a lot of work from them while other companys are booked months in advance charging $2500.00 a day with a two man pruning crew.

I was told that to work consistently for a certain class of people, you must become that class of people.

Is there specific methods of targeting people with income of 100k+ With advertising?
I don't know about becoming something your not ,but I've been told by a few of the many multi money people I deal with!
 
Jeff, what do you do? Who are your customers? How did you gain them?

I am the Operations Manager with our company, we also have branches in LA and Inland Empire.
We have a person that does marketing for us, we work for school districts, city's, HOA's, Golf courses,etc,,
We offer multiple year tree care plans. Also, good relationships with property management firms are important.

Good question, no,
Lets say I am on a job that has a couple thousand trees, they vary between many species, so you prioritize the first year with an inventory of all the the trees on the property and put them on a plan that may mean some trees every and some trees every 5 years, this proposal written out well and presented will make Board members more at ease and giving them flexibility to plan and review their budget, you know they have one, right?, I will say an important factor is your demography , , I mean the economic side.The reason I think we do not do residential is because we are to busy for that, unless we can fit you in while we are there,
also, we only have two seasons, wet and dry,,
