Tachyon Question

I see a couple threads on tachyon and cannot figure out which one to ask these questions on. I still have yet to try a tachyon splice but want some answers before i do so.
  1. Can or can't i use samson instructions? (people say to use ne ropes instructions and some say that samson instructions are easier)
  2. Does the core have two or three strands?
  3. Where should i taper more to make the final bury easier?
  4. How may cover strands should i pull and taper?
I know i will have more questions that i cannot think of at the moment.

Thanks in advance!

1. You can use Samson instructions or NE, same results. NE's show how to deal with the 2nd inner core properly, I usually eliminate it and splice it like a normal double braid. The inner core is there to keep the rope round under load, most likely why the Bone loves Tachyon.
2. 3 I believe
3. Once the fid has been thread through the throat under the cover and out at point R (Samson) I taper the core tail by removing every strand every 5 picks.
4. I usually follow the 5,5,5...

Does NickfromWI have a Tachyon vid?

Thanks! No I meant his bluemoon vid.
I cut some of the rope to expose the core. (The first time I've seen tachyon core) I see the three inner core strands (purple). But with the outer core (braids of 4 strands is what I'm seeing), is there anything special to do with that during the splice to make the final bury easier?

please tell me where to cut the inner core those of u who remove it! Im gonna try with the inner core left in and see how it goes.

looks like the only thing you did wrong was trying to splice used tachyon... You can try pulling it out and lubing it. Burying with a MA, and some whacks with a hammer handle mallet or the like. I do think your dreaming though. I did once splice a hank a little newer than what yours looks like, and swore that I would never attempt it again (it took nearly half a day).

Well, all i can say is ML got me drunk and i m never doing that again... Note to self, don't do that. It felt like i was doing something wrong the whole time. I used a come-a-long between two cars after i ripped my anchor point out of my basement wall (my new splicing bench lasted 3/4's of a splice, haha.

It was a good attempt Tyler. I did some used Vortex last night and had only slightly better results. I still have about a little bit of crossover also there (About half as much as yours). I had 1,000lbs to get it there so I am using it.

I cannot figure out this step. The core does not want to bury all the way to D. The 3 times I tried today, I got about an inch and a half away from D. The directions do not say how to taper the carefree this step. Any ideas on what the best way it to taper? Somehow i got it with used rope but can't with new rope? I want to get it this way but I'm about to remove the 3 strands and try the Samson instructions.

Is it possible that you picked a strand with your fid? That will stop a splice dead in it's tracks. This is where I would check first, look all over and see if you can find any distortion on the cover.

It was snagged on a core strand. Good call! Did one more attempt. I got this far by massaging/malloting/pulling. So hopefully the come-a-long will be able to finish it tomorrow. ML, how much does ur EZ-pull pull?

For the overlap bury, I tapered about a foot of the core a good bit and it went through like a dream. If it doesn't go through easy, take it out an taper more!
