Switching from Ddrt to Srt

So in the Pacific Northwest I'm climbing tall Doug Firs quite often and use a simple and effective srt setup simialr to this one....

When I get to the top i set up my hitch climber set up using Ddrt with a fimblesaver at the top. I like climbing Ddrt for balance. But sometime you need to go up and down the tree 2-3 times to get everything you need.

Question being, when i get to the bottom after pruning, can i send a running bowline with a yosemite tie off, or even just a biner back up to my friction saver to switch back to srt for neither will go through the thimbles technically. It just seems weird but I'm thinking its alright to do...

any thoughts?

Are you using a ring/ring false crotch for DdRT?

YOu could use a stopper of some sort but you'll have to go back up to retrieve the end. You could attach some sort of pull-down cord/rope too.

Be VERY careful to pay attention to which end of the rope you make into a stopper. It must be the end that comes out of the small ring!

This is the fimblesaver by teufelberger I'm using, so yea, simialar to ring n ring, my finally way down i will retreive it with the retrieval ball, and I'd only switch to srt to go ALL the way back up to the friction saver.

Tom, do you think sending up the biner on my fixed end is acceptable?

Mike,

What do you mean by the fixed end?

The end that ties off to your harness in DdRT? If so, that's the one that should go up as the stopper end. Just be sure to work out which way your rope goes through the rings.

Yeah bro that system works. You could tie a big alpine butterfly with a crab in it above your spliced eye. Send that up so it locks in the cambium saver and then srt up on it. Once at the top, undo alpine and clip in back to drt. Is that what you mean?
