Been here a while
I keep getting endorsed on linked in by people I know marginally, some of whom I have done tree work for.

FOR LAWNCARE!!!!!

WTF

I've never even so much as noticed these peoples lawns, let alone cared for them.

Not only do I not mow or fertilize lawn. I don't even like lawns, I object to them.

im not a fan of lawns either. i always try to get people to put mulch under there trees to the drip line if they let me. not any of that volcano crap either. away from the root collars and about 3-4 inches flat no mounds.

My wife and I constantly disagree about our "lawn". Here in the south one must fertilize heavily and irrigate to have a decent looking lawn. I refuse to do that, especially irrigate. My neighbor, on the other hand is anal about his lawn and will peckeer ith it at all hours, sometimes even starting to mow it at ten at night. As you can imagine there is a huge difference between our two properties. But, my trees look great and he doesn't have any.

I was in Santa Fe for six months or so a long time ago, and I kept seeing people in the desert...with lawns. I always had this urge to do donuts with my explorer, or set fire to them. They just seemed so pretentious. It probably costs a low income annual salary to keep a lawn out there.

I'll take a bed of pine needles over grass any day. Smells better, the house stays cooler, no need for chemicals and you can do more with your Saturdays.

Yeah, every time I get called a landscaper, I want to ask if they'd allow a landscaper to remove a large tree that hangs over their house.

No offense to any landscapers out there but it's a different skill-set.

I think organic lawn care is a really good idea for properties where trees and turf share an interaction zone. Often times traditional lawn programs are harmful to the critical root zones of trees, but if you can improve the soil conditions organically you not only improve the soil biology but you improve the trees rooted therein. People are zealots about there lawns and getting them to change their ideas on it are akin to asking them to give up their religion or a favorite sports team. We made the decision three years ago to service our customers properties from the soil to the trees and everything therein.

I've been thinking more and more about the concept that so many of the health issues we are dealing with in trees are related directly to soil. healthy soil, healthy trees.

Yep Mac. Had this discussion with a fellow inmate here. She was talking about how she's had to remove her trees over the years. I suggested that she really needed to assess her soil conditions before doing anything else as this may underly the problems she's experienced.
