Straight Point Impact Block

That is an interesting find, Boomslang! This combines an impact block with one of those devices that measures the amount of force applied during climbing and rigging operations, correct? They should have included photos of the results of a log drop on some kind of tablet or handheld computer, just to drive the point home. Nice idea.

It is viewable in real time from up to 2300 ft away

@Tom Dunlap; I own neither, so I'm not speaking from direct experience, but I would see the advantage of the Rock Exotica item as being able to be used with many different items, whereas with the Straight Point item you are limited to using it with the block it is built into.

If you are asking about how they compare when measuring like forces, one would hope that these items have both been calibrated to give an accurate result. But one never knows for sure until tests are actually done, as I guess you are implying.

@yoyoman might be a good one to make a comment on this. I think he might have the Rock Exotica unit. (I should know for sure, but it has been awhile since I last viewed one of his videos in which he used the item.)

If I had to pick one or the other, I would go with the Rock Exotica unit because of the flexibility of the stand-alone item.

Price?
RE has said they are coming out with Android software...for a couple years now.
Transmission to iPhone is good to about 1/100 of this one, yes, 100. About 23' (on a good day) vs 2300'.
I suspect this is much more $

How does it compare to the one that Rock Exotica makes?
It's capable of 3x the load force, 60kN vs 20kN for the RE Enforcer. This block is functionally the same as the large DMM Impact Block, just larger to accommodate the sensors.
It's more accurate than the Rock Exotica, +/-0.3% vs +/-2%. Plus, as Richard alluded to, it transmits data over a greater distance.

I don't see it being practical for everyday arborists as it's big and heavy (and probably expensive), but for training I think it would be an invaluable tool for showing new climber what kind of forces they are capable of generating in trees.

The enforcer is definitely versitile and can be mounted at the porta wrap or block. But can be difficult to get the right configuration in all situations. For instance with a block you must have a connecting link which will extend the drop distance when negitive rigging. When doing the double block rigging this was one of the first things we noticed when setting it all up.
It would be cool to see the price on this block but my guess is it will be far too expensive to even consider for the business world. :envidioso:envidioso:envidioso
But boy does lit look like another cool toy to play with.

I sent an email for a price inquiry. I'll post it when I get it. I like the concept but think it is probably a little overboard for most tests I would run on a tree and equipment used in the tree, but depends on price of course.
I do wish, and I know we love Rock Exotica products, they would do some updates to existing products or just flat out say, no changes planned. And if they are not going to make improvements, I wish someone else would take the ball and run with it......but I think there is an answer to that too, but I'm not going there!
I own 2 enForcers and find it very frustrating that I use an android phone but must have TWO iPhones just to get the table read out. Plus I have to put the phones very close to the load cell, with NOTHING blocking the signal, to get a graphical readout. You can't even stand between the load cell and the phone. Oh, and you almost always must have the correct side of the load cell facing the phone or again, the signal is lost.

Holy Crap! The thing is huge!
