since Husky went big box retail...like anything else, quality control went down...never happen w/ Stihl.

Most days it is all day with a modded ms 150 (even td's) (modded 201 used occassionally) and then the ported ms 461 with 28" "light" bar comes in. Gm runs new carbed ms 200 then into modded ms 361.

Big wood is dealt with 088 or 090 with pretty much any size bar I want to put on it but they sit with a 38 and 42. 660 usually sits on the shelf because the 461 has as much power modded. I think I now have 15 stihls and 2 power pruners. Most days just 3 saws go out, but the bulk of my work is less than 3 miles from saw storage to go grab another one.

As professor Hoyt once said to a student who asked "what saw should i buy" -Son, the one you can get serviced"! really, they both have great models and others that I wouldn't waste money on. Husky is trying to regain their reputation after the "big box" debacle. I think both are struggling to comply with the new emissions regs coming at them.

Just before and after 69 to '71 I ran McCullough Power Mac 6's as everyone that was worth a schit did as a climber. Couple of years after I got out of the service in 71 there was some Poulan Super 25 DA's we ran and a few Sach's Dolmars (Homelite...garbage) I went into a saw shop and there was a weird boxy thing called a Stihl 015 in Hillsboro NJ. It was comparatively a precision instrument. I bought it and since have had arguments with forum guys that the 020 came out first and Stihl was around in mass way before 74. Here is proof otherwise...

You may be right. That time line says that they started making them in the US in 1974. Some saws and other units have been made in Germany and then were switched to the US.

My guess from recollection is that is when they began to become mainstream when mfctred. here.

Husky is the girl at the dance , on the wall , goes home crying , no one asks her to dance . . Next dance , she ( Husky) gets an invite , goes home crying again . Can't figure out why she can't make someone happy . Next dance , Husky gets all dolled up , stihls her mommys make up and wears her orange dress , ready for the the big dance . Husky hits the dance floor , cant cut the rug , and bottom line is she Stihl sucks . ! So much for the mommys make up and orange dress . End of the story is she went to Germany , and Saw how to dance . WORD!!

ms 150 is literally a truly amazing saw. I could not live without it at this point. So surgical and plenty of power in a featherweight micro saw. On the other end, my 1979 bought new 090 is amazing in performance and longevity.
