Static line question

I just received a semi-static line from Beal. On the package, it said to soak the rope and then air dry before use and that the line would shrink about 5%. Does anybody know what the purpose would be and any drawbacks by not doing it?

I have most probably got the same rope that I use for rigging.

Its been out in all weathers without doing the soak thing.

But I could imagine by soaking, the fibres would find thier home after the manufactured process, making the rope more reliable and consistant.

Looking at that too on their web site. Perhaps the idea is that if you get it partially wet in use you'll get inconsistent/partial shrinking, do it once when new and the rope stays consistent in wet conditions later.

Other question is why don't they do that as part of the manufacturing process?

Funny though, never heard mention of this for any other arb ropes. What are they using in the core wool? ;-)

yeah, I looked on the site and couldn't find anything but the site is pretty big and I got sick of looking around. I guess I will find out if I like this one dry.
